I spent all weekend messing with the wiring in my 66. I was just going to try and fix the dash lights, and maybe see if I could figure out why the wipers don't work. This is what I found....

Well. Got the dash out. The pink switched feed from the ign switch had been severly overheated, and was missing most of its insulation, except where the melting had glued other wires together. All the way to the fuse box. That problem and the fact they used the resistor wire to run the HEI probably explain why it ran so poorly.

Then, after I got the fuse box out, I noticed that all of the contacts are majorly rusted.

I found the PO's neutral safety switch jumper, all 6 feet of it, as well as his jumpers for the backup lights. Go figure, but I think thats what melted the wire.

Anyway, I got $30 worth of Dremel tools, and the 3/16 or so round ball shaped carbide cutter worked fine to get in and clean the rust off the fuse panel clips.

I broke the wire connector off the pink wire and fuse holder, so out it came, and I reattached the new wire with a ring connector and a 6-32 bolt.

Anyway, I now have dash lights, turn signals, tail lights, headlights, etc.

The wipers still won't cooperate.

I probably will buy a repro harness later, but I don't want to spend the money right now, until the engine is rebuilt, and the brakes and such are working, so I am going to try to get it usable. Not sure its the best way.

Suggestions welcome.
