Hi Guys:
I'm in the process of restoring a 66 SS 396. Removed the kneeknocker today and found the following numbers 6412773. I was wondering if this tach is correct for the car. Any information on the tach would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

I only have numbers for the head assembly...I assume the number you have is probably for the unit - where'd you find the number? In any case there were three different tach RPM ranges depending on the engine hp.
0-6000 rpm/5000 rpm redline ~ 8-cyl except Hi/Perf, Spl. Hi/Perf (e.g., small block and 396/325)
0-7000 rpm/5500 rpm redline ~ 396 Hi/Perf (396/360)
0-7000 rpm/6200 rpm redline ~ 396 Spl. Hi/Perf. (396/375)

I found the number inside the area of the tach that attaches to the dash carrier. The tach also indicates that the redline area is from 4800 rpm (low end) to 5200 (high end). Hope this helps.
Thanks Again,
Michael

MichaelI take it then that it's the 0-6000 range unit. Orange (warning) band probably goes from 4800 to 5000 then the red (danger) band from 5000 to 5200. If it's a SS car it's correct for the base 325hp engine.
