my buddy is running a old set of M/T valve covers on his pretty much stock 396. he`s going through the motor now to pump it up and want to keep the M/T`s. how much lift will clear with roller rockers? i know of a guy in town that claimed he had .600 lift in his bbc and he was running M/T`s.
anyone know the limits? thanks.

Just grind rockers where they hit. And he will be fine.

Anthony,
Not sure of the limits but I can tell you my experience. Prior to the roller rockers I currently have installed, I had the stamped steel rockers with the 454 LS6 cam and they just hit the drippers inside the M/T covers a tiny amount so I had them cut down a bit. Now, I've got same M/T valve covers on my big block only with and a Crane roller cam .587"/.610" with 1.7 roller rockers. I completely removed the oil drippers cast into the inside of the covers. Otherwise they hit the rockers to much.

Sams454SS, thanks for the info. I don`t think he was going to use that much lift so he should be ok.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Use thick or 2 gaskets. For years that is what I ran with .650 lift and Isky roller rockers. you must grind the drip things off and make sure you push the cover as far up (toward the carb) as you can when putting them on.
