Took the afternoon off work and tried to break the laziness and general lack of motivation from being snowed in recently and thought I'd install the "Deluxe" belts I ordered quite some time ago.

All I need is a set of NOS 1970 Red Floor mats and I'll be set.

Notice the Vintage Late 60's "Texaco" keychain

Fun Stuff! :D Almost Show season.

That is beautiful! Love red interior cars.

When the interior is all one color such as all red or green, isn't the steering wheel usually green also or am I imagining?

Anyhow, great work, and amazing car you have there!

I believe with the Malibu's, both the Steering Column, and Wheel would be Red in the case of a Red interior.

With the SS Option, the Column and Wheel would be Black.

Tough to beat a red interior......unless it is in a black car (I finally just located the correct retractors).

Your car looks great John !!!

Wow, isn't that nifty!

My car's a driver and has 10 year old paint. It looks pretty darn good but it is the weak link (so to speak) on the car.

A few years down the road when I'm bored with nothing left to improve on, I will likely give it a fresh coat of paint.

I've been toying with Black/White Stripe Red gut.

Any chance you could post a couple more pictures of that car Rick?

Not that I need to throw any water on that expensive seed in my head...... But...... :D

I absolutely love the black/red gut combination. The jury is still out on the white stripes but not a whole lot of choices. Here you go John.

Which Red? :D

Mine is Custom.

The Red Vinyl interior kit I recieved was far too Dark, almost a Maroon. After researching I found that not only were the vinyls being offered not the correct shade, but could vary from year to year with different Lots.

I had Ground up contact PUI (the manufacturer) and they sent me (12) or more different shades of Red Vinyl. I picked the loudest, brightest, (Spank my Hiney) Red that was in the group, and ordered a Custom interior package with the bright Red.

I then contacted www.justdashes.com and they custom matched Vinyl Dye the exact color as the brigh Red vinyl.

The results being a bright Red interior that closer matches the Bright "Re-sale Red" Exterior.

It surprisingly looks pretty close to Rick's though!

I see Rick has some of the most expensive switches going. Power door locks on a 1970. Impossible to find and harder to finance if you need them.

Rick - That is an absolutely gorgeous black ragtop. I'm kind of with you on thinking stripe delete would be the ticket. Regardless, one gorgeous car. But I have to ask...that FORD in the background of that one picture...now that is about more than a guy can handle!!! lol :D

Thank you. The owner hired me to do a street restoration for his families enjoyment only. He was not interested in numbers or how correct it was as long as it was visually similar. It was a complete basket case to start with and likely the worst shape I have ever started with but it really turned out very nice at a very minimal expense (comparatively speaking). My bodyman/painter is bar none one of the best! The owner of the car was one of the best customers I ever had and a pleasure to work for. The only exception from stock was the addition of bucket seats as it was originally a bench. Yuck!

The F250 camper special in the background was purchased for a customer to turn it into a street rod of sorts. He changed his mind before the project started so now I need to move a truck fast. If not for a Ford I would do it for myself as it is an Arizona no rust truck with a 352 auto. Sweet ride needing only a little TLC.

There's nothing better than a Black 70.

So Rick, was it Legendary or PUI and what Red was ordered?

It was PUI "Gold Edition" and a color they had in stock. Lets see some more shots of your car.

Mine was custom ordered from PUI. Alot of people "PUI" Bash, but I was pleased with them.

I've corrected alot of the errors you'll see in the engine compartment, I'm due for a new photo shoot and then I'll throw it to the wolves again in a "correct detailing " assesment thread.

Right now she's tore down installing the correct water pump.

Notice the dead giveaway in the upper left cowl area ? :D

That's also been corrrected.

I'm struggling with scraping up for (and justifying) $1600 for a Smog system.

John,
ive wanted to ask you this question for a while now so here it goes.

how can a person spend $1000 on seat belts and then say they are happy with a second rate interior?

69396ss

And here's the main "PUI Basher" :D on a mission.

Re: Are all seat covers created equal?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess there's different degrees of perfection, and if a seat cover can cost twice the amount of another, simply for a degree of puffiness in the raised panels, than by all means.

If it's worth double the cost for puffy panels, then by all means.

I'm still not stating Legendary is not the better cover, but one must weigh in all factors, including material, stitch, fit, detail, price and service to make thier descision.

Its just that in past post you bring up the difference in price for first rate compared to second rate. But it seams like money is no object for other things.
So whats an extra $100 for covers that are correct and have a lifetime warranty?

Donnie, I purchased most of my reproduction parts from Ground Up.

At the time, they carried PUI. I ordered a complete interior set and what I recieved was almost a "Burgendy" in color. I was unhappy with it and decided to send it back.

As I inquired with him about other manufacturers, my salesman went out of his way to make me a happy customer. (as he should have with the thousands of dollars I spent in restoration parts.)

He immediately contacted PUI, and they offered to send me a swatch of every color vinyl they had. Over 12 different shades of Red. They immediately "over nighted" the vinyl swatchs, and the UPS label to ship back the interior kit I was dissatisfied with.

I chose a custom "Bright Red" color and they custom fabricated the entire package including headliner, visors, door panels and seat covers in the custom bright red vinyl and had it back to me in 2-3 weeks.

PUI was very busy at the time but the salesman at ground up had it expedited for me.

After it's installed, the seat covers are crisp and fit very well. The bright red color, if you saw it in person, I'm sure you would agree is stunning.

I've heard you rant and rant about PUI being second rate to legendary, and you've gone out of your way to point out my interior is "second rate" every chance you can, because of my choice of PUI.

So far all you've shown me is a puffier stuffed pleat which looks "too puffy" to me. Everything else is just Blah Blah Blah.

The customer service I was provided, the speed in which my "custom order" was expedited, and the overall fit and finish of the product pleases me.

I'm sorry you disagree but your rants can't change my satisfaction with PUI.

I realize that not everyone has had a satisfactory experience with PUI, but I've also read of loose stitching etc. with Legendary.

My covers fit nice and taught, look good, and the customer service I recieved was exceptional.

Customer service goes a long way in making a satisfied customer.

I know Legendary stands behind their product, but with my dealings and experience with PUI, they have done the same and have gone out of their way, to ensure I was completely satisfied.

Perhaps with the close to $10,000 I spent overall with ground-up, I recieved special attention and focus on quality when my custom PUI order was expedited.

I don't know, but There's really nothing left to debate on my part, as I am, and will remain satisfied with them.

Please show me the links to this; ( but I've also read of loose stitching etc. with Legendary.)

I guess everyones definition of quality is different.
also, im NOT bashing pui just stating facts.
and I did not go out of my way to do anything. I just stated that from your pics I could tell you had pui.
and with your pursuit of perfection for your car. I couldnt understand your happiness with pui.

A fat wallet and alot of patience is all you need.

I waited over a year to find a set of NOS Red 70 Floor mats and paid $250 for them. (Front only)

What do you need and what are you restoring?

John, is the rear seat belt orientation the same or different than a '69. The reason I am asking is that I noticed in the 1969 Fisher body manual it shows the right (passenger) rear seat belt orientation opposite to your layout.

Black webbing with Black plastic buckles is the standard interior.

Red webbing with Brushed Stainless buckles is the Deluxe Belt option.

These would be correct standard belts.

I'm a fan of the Deluxe belts myself though, especially in a Red interior.

Thanks John,
I like that look as well, my 66 has the Deluxe belts( Blue straps w stainless buckles) it's definitely a sharper looking set up.
