I have a single plane high rise aluminum intake manifold (TM-1). I would like to know if anyone else has converted an intake manifold to a dual plane by welding a 1/8" thk aluminum plate from front to back (centered). If you have not done it, do you think it will work?

Is it just me or is everyone drawing a blank?

Theres a lot more to a dual plane intake than a divider down the middle.
Half the runners are on one plane and the others are on the second. They are not divided, left and right.
Example; 1,7,4,6 are on the lower plane and 3,5,2,8 are on the upper plane.
look at the runners on this DP

Never done it Frank..but you would not have a dual plane, simply a divided single plane.I am sure it would start and run..but the manifold pulses between cyls would be a crap shoot.Maybe a 4 hole spacer under the carb would be beneficial before attempting the modification.

we used to use that divider on oval track engines that needed a little more oompf off the corners. no welding though. used a 1" spacer with vertical slots cut in the front and back, a steel plate with ears that fit in the slots dropped in. easily removeable if it didn't help.
Performer RPM is superior, will give better torque without hurting the top end unless your engine is really big.

Seems to me Weiand used to sell a single-plane manifold that had a slot milled in it for exactly that purpose--you'd drop a ~1/8 thick chunk of aluminum into the slot to divide the plenum front-to-rear.
I'll look around for a photo...gotta be one on the 'net somewhere.

The Weiand 7546 had the plate slot in it if not mistaken. 7547 w/o.
I'd do just what Tom suggested if I wanted t T&T before I would screw up a good intake!!
Seem's like we used to be able to buy spacers w/ the divider plate already on them in years past from somebody??
