I just pulled the valve cover off my engine and the casting # is 6272292, the build date is November 12, 1971. I searched for this casting # but found nothing. If anyone has an idea it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance:thumbsup:

2.06 in. 1.72 ex. list at 113 cc chambers. would probably measure at 113 up 119 cc, maybe even a little bigger. good heads if right for your combo. i have used 2 sets with good results. mike

You gotta cc BB heads so you really know what they are b/c the darned things vary ALL over the map.

Smog heads look way big and can be 112/113 up to 124 and -781's/-049's can vary from 113 to above 120!!

what would be a good combo? these are currently on a 396, mild cam, exh manifolds and a 750 dbl pmpr.

With 2.19/1.88 valves and mild bowl blending/runner smoothing the ovals make great street heads with lots of potential.

is it easy to remove the valve cover? or do you need to take out the engine or something..

imho a lot depends what you want to do with the car, stick or auto, what converter, what gears you have or want to run, tires, generally 3.55-4.10 gears, stick or 11" converter, summit small tube headers, high rise intake(performer rpm) and 750 dp will put a serious smile on your face. we had 1 car that ran a comp cam 282s with a stick and 4.11 gears, car was a blast and easily spun 3 gears of rubber. stock cast pistons too.

i ran a 8.5 396, 800 dp(too big), crane hydraulic(.529-.525 278-290), 11" B&M converter, 2-1/8" headers(open and muck too big) 4.88 gears and slicks. ran 12.6 @106 in 100 deg heat and floating the valves at the 1k foot mark. i would search for 396-402 combos.

Gary,

You just remove the valve cover bolts off whichever cover that is easiest to remove and gently pry it off and look for the head casting number that's between the rocker studs.

We post back the last three numbers like "-781" or "-215" so we can hunt up what it is.
