I want to start some 8 mile heads up racing next year, can you guys tell me how much ET you gained going from street tires to slicks.
Thanks, Mark

It also depends on how much power/little traction your talking about. Some big time power cars dont have any traction for several hundred feet. Some stick shift cars can spin the tires through 3 or 4 gears. A good way to get a decent idea of how much you'll gain, is post your 60ft/ET/MPH on street tires, and mention if your running a manual or auto trans.

A eight mile drag strip, wow. How high a gear do you need for that one? :D Only kidding, high powered cars like my sons 540 Chevelle can't even begin to use a street tire or even a Drag Radial. He put a set of B.F.G. - D.R. on and ruined them in one pass, slicks only now or possibly E.T. Streets which are 2-3 tenths slower.

Best for my car on street tires is an 11.70 @ 122
With slicks, 10.9 @ 123

best way to get a guesstamite would be to post your 1/8 MPH if you have made any passes.

how much power do you have and what are your current 60ft. times? GOOD street tires will get you into the 1.9 60ft if your good with the throttle. Drag radials will get you into the 1.5 range if your making enough power to go that fast.

LAST year with slapper bars and street radial tires 13.8 with 2.45 60 footer. This years best with QTP hoosiers and caltracs best 11.86 at 1.64 best 60 footer!!!!!!!!! AL

Thanks fellows, current times on Pep Boy tires are best was 2.07 60 ft. with a 8.86 et mph was 82.4. that was with good weather, but the track was not prepaired, it was test and tune day.
Last summer it was hot as I can remember at the track, only ran a 9.03 spinning like crazy, but I do have Cal-tracs, and drag shocks on the back now. Also a 350 turbo with a rag B@M torkmaster 2000 converter and 3.08 gear. But I now have a 3.73 gear, and a PTC 2400 converter, but I have not put that stuff in yet.

The MPH is the real clue. It won't change more than a couple from street rubber to slicks.
82 = about 104 in the 1/4, and that will net a high 12.

Being that your only getting 82 mph now on an 8.80 1/8 ..I'd say 8.40's at best

Markv2, what is your current engine spec?

DOT's or slicks will improve your 60 ft.
2.07 on street tires is pretty decent
With stickies, expect to see a minimum of a 1.90 (or better) if your combo is making decent torque.

Ron Interesting, I would have thought with a slick= better traction from the line resulting in quicker ets' and a faster mph.
Learned sumptin new again

What I have been told is for every .1 off your 60' equals .2 off your 1/4 and MPH is only going to change if you spin.

Slicks mounted, so we'll see.

Each .10 reduction in the 60 ft. equals .15 in overall ET

..I've come pretty close with that following my timeslips over the last 3 years
