: VIN Tag Damaged!!! (pics)

hey guys, i had the windshield in my 71 removed yesterday and once it was out i noticed alot of rust. i looked at my VIN tag and noticed it was in really bad shape. what can i do to fix it? sorry for the poor picture quality.

First - learn how to shoot close ups :D :D

Second - ask the DMV in your state because you'll probably get all kinds of answers pertaining to some other state and even guesses from people in your state.

As was suggested, ask the DMV. It needs to come off to repair the damaged cowl area. Ask them how to legally go about it. The VIN plate itself is in usable condition if some rust creep preventive material is used on it.
