: Why is the Trim Tag on my 66 SS396 not the right shape?

I don't have pictures of my tag, but I can post them later today.

According to the guy who remakes trim tags, he shows this for a 1966:

Mine is shaped like this: (What he shows for a 1961 Impala) With the bead all the way around, no notched corners.

The VIN numbers match the 396 block I have, as well as the #'s stamped on the rear of the frame.

I've posted the Trim tag #'s here years ago, and they matched for a 1966 SS396 with bucket seats, no center console and a vinyl top, which is what my car had when I bought it.

I'm adding a center console and did not put a vinyl top back on, so was thinking about getting a new tag for it. (latest car pic's here: http://usera.imagecave.com/etd66ss/66-CHEVELLE-SS396/)

But I notices the ones he shows for 1966 don't look like mine...

I'll take pictures of it tonight and post them.

Just as an FYI, the image of Flint tag shown on the trimtags .com website is incorrect for the early style Flint tag in 1966.

There were two styles of trim tags used in 66. Not all assembly plants used the two styles. In particular, Fremont used the early style until January and then switched to the more common style. Show us what you have or check out the tags at chevellestuff.com.

OK, here are pictures of my VIN & Trim Tags:

That's the best quality I could get of the VIN with my camera, took like 10 pictures of it...

If you can't read the VIN, it's: 138176Z112473

I just went to chevellestuff.com.

How the heck did my trim tag end up on that site? It's off the car too in that pic, I'm the one who took it off...

Very strage. I must have posted a pic here before and someone used it?

Look under 66 body plates, Fremont. Mine is the second one...

So, the trim tag does not denote center console anywhere? Just bucket seats?

The only thing really wrong with mine now is I no longer have a vinyl top?

I'm not really a car show guy, so I guess I don't really see the point in getting a new trim tag...

I think most people will see the YY upper color/lower color and won't recognize the CO8. It doesn't matter anyways. I would rather see an original tag and know the vinyl top was removed, than see a detectable repro and wonder why it has been replaced.
