I have finally gotten the heater assembly for my 68 Malibu and hope to install it this weekend. It would appear that the water runs through the internal heater core all the time. I have found the imfamious resister block and it checks out good, as does the fan motor. So what's the problem?

Well, does the water constantly flow into the heater core? That seem like it would leave me with warm feet on hot days?

Thanks for your help.

I assume that it runs through all the time, mine does but it is a 64. There is a door that swaps the air passage so that it comes from either the heater or A/C or fresh air.

Yes, I suspect that you are correct. My 55 PU has a fancier heater unit, in that it has a capalary tube that shuts down the flow of water. I have also seen a valve in some cars that is in the engine compartment. It has a wire running back into the dash so it can be controlled that way. I may just look around for that valve and see if I can adapt it to my needs.

Any and all thoughts are appreciated, so thanks in advance.

Water runs through the core all the time. The air is routed around or through the core by flaps in the heater box that are moved by the cables connected to the control panel. If you'll buy the Chassis Service Manual for your car the system is covered in detail.
