Maybe hit with a DA sander? Everything matches up well with this car from my novice eyes.

I think many SS cars through the years have had their trim tags rubbed, cleaned and sanded on more than the usual Malibu.

Dosent look fishy to me, just looks like it's been hit with a sander at one point or another.

Who really cares though sinse the original Engine and trans is gone anyway?

Who cares if somebody changed a trim color and tag?

The thing that confuses me, clone or not, is how a Frame off 69 Post SS with Era and coded correct 396/375HP cant bring an opening bid of $35K in the last 53 minutes of the auction.

Many of us are going to lose some major $$$$$ if we ever have to sell before this resession is over.

You will never, ever, ever build one for less.

Clone or not.

Yes it is a very nice car. The reason would not to change colors but to add the L on the trim tag.

Should you be intrested in this car, Ortonville is 15 minutes from me and I would inspect it for a TC member. Norman

Where is the "0" before the "1" on the trim tag

Car was in TC ads for quite a while, first at about $75K and then $65K I think. This car is actually done up very nice. The interior is all correct 300 Deluxe stuff except for the reproduction rubber floor. Very refreshing to see one without all the Malibu interior stuff put on it. A few engine details are not correct.

A fellow TCer was possibly interested in this car and corresponded with me about it. If anybody is possibly considering this car feel free to email me to get the true lowdown.

Rivets on trim tag look strange.

If you look closely at the lower corner of the trim tag, you will see diagonal scrapes/marks. That could very well be where they ran seam sealer across the corner of the tag. My 69 ElCamino had the seam sealer right across that corner. I removed all the old seam sealer on the car, last week. I was very careful removing it from the trim tag. I used several coats of paint remover and 0000 steel wool, so I wouldn't damage the tag. The trim tag in the Ebay ad looks more flattened out on the side where the seam sealer may have been. Maybe someone wasn't as careful as I was, and sanded it off, with a DA or some type of sander. The rivets look good to me.

Is it just me, but why is there no ASTRO VENTILATION..? This is the first time i have noticed that on post cars. Can anybody tell more on this..? I would like to know.

I am in Ortonville, do not think I have ever seen it, will keep my eyes open

Tony, the 69 Post cars did not get the Astro Ventilation. Instead they still retained the vent windows from the previous year. As a result, you will only see one "vent" knob on the kick panels which is for the lower vent only.

And it has the ever popular 'radio delete' package. Looks to have speed warning buzzer delete and rear window fogger delete as well. Gee, no telling how many options were deleted on the order form. :clonk:

No, no, Johnnie. Wasn't referring to your question about a 2-dr post SS in 69. There are certainly out there and I had one back in the 70s - http://dalesplace.com/others/69ss/69ss.htm. My comment was to all these 'delete' items like radios. Radios were optional and never standard, hence they couldn't technically be 'deleted' - just not ordered in the first place. Not ordering an optional radio doesn't make the hole cover a 'radio delete plate' anymore than not ordering A/C makes the hole cover an 'air conditioning delete plate'. If there's such a thing as 'radio delete' then there must be thousands of 'SS delete', '4-speed delete', 'air conditioning delete', ad nauseam cars out there.

For any 300 Deluxe SS non-believers, here are three. Ron Cook's, ours, and Don Lightfoot's. Kingston was just as alive in 2001 as it was in 1966. ;) For lack of a better word, both of our Chevelles came with those XXXXX XXXXXX plates as well. ;) I guess we'll just have to invent a new name for these pieces.
