: Would/could this run??
befair Aug 2nd, 04, 9:02 PM This may not be the correct forum to post this question, but there isn't a "WTF" forum.........so here it is.
Saw this Nova at a local show, should've got more pictures, but this is it. graemlins/clonk.gif
Would someone take the time to explain how this set-up could possibly run....or will it?
I didn't see this car driven into the lot, so I can't say that it actually was.
I dunno?!

Bob West Aug 2nd, 04, 9:09 PM I bet it would be quicker with either/or, but sure looks wicked with both a supercharger and turbos.
engineguy Aug 2nd, 04, 9:09 PM Yeah, that thing probably runs Ok, but man what a tuning nightmare!

pdq67 Aug 2nd, 04, 9:19 PM I don't get it unless it is just a poser??
I figure that under boost from the TT's the blower hat would expand and leak??
And surely the blower hat butterfly's don't work and are sealed shut so they can't leak!!
I wouldn't see why tuning would be all THAT bad since all you would need to do is synronize the two carb's but if it does boost twice like a REAL set-up like this should, I figure high octane race fuel would be required!!
Am I missing something??
Anyway, it does look like some good workmanship installation-wise, imho...

Bob West Aug 2nd, 04, 9:24 PM Could the supercharger be using the extra air the turbos are providing? at low speeds? I'd like to see performance numbers from it.

pdq67 If you're missing it..........I am too!
It is beautiful workmanship.....the injector unit was plumbed and looked like it worked. If it did work, when the butterflies opened.........wouldn't the boost from the turbo's be lost? I don't get it.
BowtieAaron Aug 2nd, 04, 9:38 PM thats awesome.
thats how alot of the 2stroke deisles were back in the 60's and probably 70's. they had a roots blower on top,and a turbo or two, to make extra air. it worked great on the 2strkes, and it was even on the 4strokes i belive as well.
idk how streetable it is, but damn imagine hearing a BOV and a whine at the same time. hehe must be awesome.

That's Rick Dobertons Nova I believe. It won street machine of the year back in the 80's, right at the beginning of the Pro Street era. I don't believe it is anything more than a show car. But it does run.
Monte Aug 2nd, 04, 9:58 PM Here is a little info on it. Monte http://www.auburnmoon.com/1965_nova_ss.htm
RB69SS396Conv Aug 2nd, 04, 10:22 PM Yeah doesn't make alot of sense, having TWO turbos that blow into a bug catcher.... and of course, with TWO Edelbrock "triangles of death" on it, it's going to be hard to beat when sitting still near a track...
Beautiful, but entirely a waste of effort, as far as going fast. Looks like yerbasic "looky how many square inches of chrome I got under here" exercise. Just not really my style in spite of the careful and painstaking workanship.
Just think how good of a motor builder that person could be, maybe even is actually, if they turn their attention to function instead of chrome.

Two stage supercharging was used for years before intercoolers came along. The premise is reducing charge heating while increasing intake manifold pressure. It was found in European race cars as early as the '20s. RR, Mercedes, Alfa, Auto Union, and others used it in their race and some road vehicles. It was used in some aircraft during WW11, and as mentioned above, some diesels are found with a combination of roots and turbos. Many of you have two stage compressors in your garages.
Although I'd be the first to agree that the builder didn't have "ultimate" performance in mind when he built the car, the "concept" has proven merits.
