Recently got an 81 El Camino with the 4.4L 267 V8 with smog equipment. The engine runs fairly well but I'm sure there are a few things wrong. With the key in the on position but the engine not running, there are one or more things (solenoids?) clicking under the hood. There are sounds coming as well from a device mounted inside the right front fender. Is that the ECM? Hard to tell if this continues with the engine running. And, not sure if this is related but the previous owner disconnected the electric choke and turned it into a manual. Any help is appreciated.

Thanx

The clicking you are hearing from the front of the carb is the Mixture Control Solenoid, it'll quit after a few seconds unless you start the engine, this is normal. the clicking from the right front fender is most likely a relay, hard to tell over the internet. For more questions, c'mon over to www.montecarloss.com for G body questions such as this, I am there as 86ttop.

The clicking continues as long as the key is in the on position.
