I am trying to get a ballpark weight on my car & was wondering if there is anyone that has a rough idea of what a stock Big Block Iron headed 66 hard top weighs.

one of my books says that the "shipping weight" of the 66 with a 396 in it was 3375, but that does not seem heavy enough.

thanks Gents.

The Encyclopedia of American Cars shows a 1966 Malibu Hardtop SS with V8 as 3470 lbs. Not much of an increase, but still more.

If you really want to know the weight of "your" car, go get it weighed. There's a place in my area that sells building stone, crushed rock, etc., and they have a scale at their drive up window. They sell their products by the pound and weigh your car before and after loading whatever you're buying. I believe our city dump also has a scale so they can charge for whatever you're dropping off. You may even check with a recycling facility, they probably have a scale too.

Right on RedSS, thanks a bunch.

68Elkie, thanks, I know the problem is that the car does not have any wheels on it @ the moment so getting it there would be a bit tough. I will be doing 4 courner wieghts later, but I wanted to have some idea for the moment.

Im a bit surprised that there are not a bunch of folks that know exactly what thier cars weigh. I figured for sure there was some kind of reference here on chevelles.com, but I could not find it.

thanks again gents.

I have a 66' SS 396 hardtop. Has a 454 with aluminum intake, aluminum heads, Griffin aluminum radiator, manual steering, power disk front brakes, TH-400, aluminum Weld wheels all four corners with skinnies up front. The car weighs EXACTLY 3,480lbs with 5 gallons of fuel and NO driver. My guess, depending on options, is that your car weighs ~3,600lbs.

Well...although mine is a sedan , and really doesnt meet any of your criteria...i figured i'd chime in anyway.

With fiberglass bumpers, fenders, and hood, no inner fenderwells, SBC with alum heads, radiator, intake and waterpump, no heater system or controls, 2 plastic front seats, no rear seat, fuel cell, 4 corner aerospace discs, and weld draglites, i'm at 2875 with a couple gallons in the tank. Comes otu to 3050 with me in it and a full nitrous bottle. 51.8% on the front and 48.2% on the back.

This was all scaled on a 4-point scale that a local pro-mod team uses.

I understand that most people probably wouldnt go this far for weight reduction, but i like havin a big light car. smile.gif
