I think $700 is way high. If you are just wanting to cover bare metal. Purchase the epoxy and do it yourself. looks like for around $300 you can do it.

The SPI epoxy primer worked well for me and many others on this site like it. It's about $130 plus shipping.

SPI epoxy is great. 2 gallons for $130 is a great deal and Barry is a top notch guy if you have any problems. FYI the SPI epoxy likes to have 30 min induction and also a little reducer to thin it out(about a shot glass per paint cup).

My buddy had his '52 suburban blasted and epoxy primed for $700. It is a lot bigger than a Chevelle, are you sure the $700 was just for the primer?

no worrys joel, while im picking your guys brains, earlier in the thread someone said the spi epoxy primer likes 30 min of induction and some reducer, can anyone elaborate more into that and tell me what it means by 30 min of induction and some reducer, and how crucial that is and what it does, im 16 and just starting so all the help i can get is great to me and my library or bookcase:D of knowledge? Thanx.

What is sweat-in or induction time?
A:These terms refer to the waiting period required between the time you mix and the time you can start applying a two-part product, such as an epoxy. This allows the necessary chemical reactions between the two parts to begin so the coating will cure and perform properly.

If you go here. http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/SPI%20News.htm you will see tech sheets, then go to epoxy and they will tell you how to use it.

You just can not epoxy prime after sandblasting, what type of grit is he using, sand, plastic, olivene, etc. When we get a car back from blasting plastic or olivene which is a fine material that breaks down on impact not destroying your metal its a jem from the Caroliners down south. We DA the entire car metal prep the parts we use Glasurit products in my shop then tape it up if needed and we put 2 coats of epoxy primer, I use a little more then 1 1/2 gallons. It costs me $ 151.30 for a gallon set-up. Time materials and labor sure you can do it yourself better have a booth its serious stuff or sublet and $ 700.00 is more then fare.

Thomas, good points you brought out, and I don't have a clue about all the different medias out there that are used for blasting, but this one here. You don't have to do anything after you blast with it, just blow the dust off. I only use ppg dp epoxy, and it will stick to sandblasted metal like its welded on there.

As far as some of the different types of coal slag, I have painted some parts that have been blasted with it, and I haven't seen any peeling or lifting, these parts were done 3 or 4 years ago.

I read on the hot rodders forum that walnut shells will leave an oily type residue, and I would imagine plastic beads and some of the other stuff might also. Although I'm guessing, because I only use sand.

These parts are about 4 years old, some of it was sandblasted, and epoxy sprayed over it, and some of it had z-chrome and then epoxy sprayed over, but the sandblasted part wasn't sanded, just sprayed.

Some of the media that leaves a residue is the shells and baking soda is the worst to use on your car espcially if you remember what happenened with all those Ford cars years ago. You can always go straight to prime but its always good to prep and clean the parts, sand is pourous and has moisture in it metal prep gets rid of that and starts you out clean and from square one, but for choice sand has always been the one used most often, thanks Rob.

You go to photobucket, get an account,
then click on browse
find the pics on your computer
click on the pic and then click open
the picture will then be in your account in photobucket.
scroll down and it will have the pic with some codes underneath
pic the image code, click on it and the code will copy
come to the tech site, open post a message and click edit/paste.
the pic code will then be on this site. Type your message before or after the code and post it.

I was looking at the "adjusting your gun" thread on spi website and i am not quite grasping what there saying, is it important to adjust the gun in the primer stage or do u just spray it, all i know about painting is u want to keep the gun about 6-9 inches from the place your painting and a 50% overlap, is that right or no for spraying epoxy primer, any advice or help would be much appreciated!
Thanx
