Hi everybody from FRANCE.

I restore my chevelle 66 and when i take off the left side of Control steering arms, (drivers side), it was lock, impossible to separate on steering other parts ! never have a problem like this one !!!

I tried many tools during 2 hours, but nothing worked !

So i cut it with an electric disc machine, and try to put off the little steel, try to do a hole, but nothing to do, i think that my steering control arm need to be change !

It seem to be difficult to find this parts for me !

SO I FIND a couple (right and left side) of this parts but the guy said me that it fit on a Le man PONTIAC 68 to 72 aned chevelle too but only 68 to 72 !

On photos from this seller, it seem to be the same parts (see on photos)but i'm not sure and i don't want to buy it without more information !

Is there someone who can tell me if this part is ok with my chevelle 66 malibu (i restore it with a front disc convertion kit) !

On the first and second photo, here is my parts with damage on my 66 chevelle,

IF not possible to work this part, is there someone who have the driver side control steering for my 66 ? i often buy on ebay with verified paypal account !

Many thanks for your help !

The arms should fit if the spindles in your kit came off of a disc brake car, or are new copies of the same. I have a pair of those arms I just measured, they are 4 1/16" (103.3mm) center to center on the mounting bolt holes, and 3 1/2" (88.9mm) center to center from the forward mounting hole to the tie rod mounting hole.

It's very nice of you Cameano for this quick and professional answer !
I'm happy because i think it will fit for my car with these information !

I compared on my parts and measured it, it's the same.
My convertion kit is a new convertion front disc so i think there is no probleme now !

I will can buy control steering arm 's guy !
so it hope now that these parts will fit but If i have a problem during installation, with unlucky bad model, i will ask on this forum to get 66 model control steering arm if needed !

Bye everybody ! (Fabrice)

go to speedway motors on line' and buy a tappered reamer, about $50.00 and fix them. you will need a drill press too.

Fabrice,
The 64-67 front spindles may differ in the size of the bolt that goes thru the steering arm to the spindle. I am at work so my interchange guide is at home.

It's hard to tell from your pictures, but I think you can clean up your old steering arms or have a local machine shop do it.

Are you saying you cut the tie-rod stud off that attaches to the steering arm and marred up the steering arm doing it? Sounds like you can take a grinder and smooth out the flat part, and if you use a round file you can clean up the hole in the steering arm. The tie-rod stud does not turn once it's pressed onto the steering arm.

The common tool to pop the tie-rod stud from the steering arm is a "pickle-fork". sometimes you need to put a 2nd sledge hammer against the joint and smack the pickle-fork hard to "pop" the joint.

The smaller one is used for tie-rods.

Hi gibbons, you seem speak very well French , thanks for this !
I bought my 66 chevelle in 2001 december, in FRANCE in "charente maritime département (number 17), it work fine but 2 monts after, i began to have problem like low oil engine pressure, high water temperature so i decided this day to do a total restoration engine and other things like intérior, wheels, tire, total pypes and 4/1, ...
I didn't drive my chevelle since this day and i'm hope finish my restoration project to drive it again ! (it depend of course of money and time disponibility)

DG if i understand, it necessary to verify hole diameter where is bolts who fixe control steering arm and spindle !

may be Cameano can verify diameter as he have a couple of 68 - 72 parts

But i reverify the distance bitween foward hole (where is bolt spindle) to tie rod hole and it seem to be more than 88,9mm (3 1/2 ") ! i mesured (3 3/4) if i didn't do mystake !

ABout my control steering arm, i 'm affraid that damage is important !

You are lucky to get a good interchange manual book because i have this one
http://www.chevelle.fr/chevellefr/Images_forum/Accf/Pieces_neuves_achetees/Manual_parts_interchange.jpg
and no information about control steering arm !!! (edition Paul A. Herd !)

ALSO IS THERE SOMEONE WHO HAVE A PASSENGER CONTROL STEERING ARM OF 66 CHEVELLE ?? i can buy with paypal on ebay ! thanks alls MEMBERS

Good call, Fabrice. I went back out and checked mine, and it is closer to 3 3/4". I was still working on my first cup of coffee when I measured that. And it was dark, I was holding a flashlight. Yeah, that's it. ;) :D The bolt diameter is 1/2", I did just check that. Of course, it's night, and I was using the flashlight again. ;)
