: found a couple projects, need help deciding

I found a couple projects and I`m a little unsure of which way to go. The first choice is a 63 chevy truck shortbed big window project. It`s missing the bed and the engine but the rest is there and workable. I can pick it up for $350. The other is a 64 Buick skylark 2dr sedan. No drivetrain and needs some metal work, well they both do. Anyway, the Buick is $725 but I will try to get it lower. Obviousely the low price means lots of work for either one but unfortunatley these are the only types of projects I can affordright now. The future doesn`t look much better financially. What do you guys think?

the Skylark would be more unique

Skylark would be cool, but good luck finding aftermarket stuff for it.

Thanks guys. I was kinda leaning towards the skylark since it`s still a A body so alot if not all of the chevelle chassis stuff and brakes will interchange. Plus it has a back seat, a big seller to the wife. On the other hand, the truck would be easier and probably cheaper to get together and there are a ton of parts for them. Neither one of them is going to be a rocket but I do have a mild 327 lined up for whatever I can find to put it in.

You can probably guess which one I would go with..:D
I paid $700 for my '66 two years ago.

As long as you aren't trying to make the Buick "correct" you'll have a lot of fun with it. I haven't found anything underneath that doesn't interchange with the Chevelle stuff. Even interior panels swap to Chevy if like me you don't care about keeping it Buick.

Dash stuff is way different but mostly everything else fits.

Good luck either way!

I would go with the buick, I would love to have a project like that because I have a 472 caddy motor and a th400 under my bench waiting for the right car to come along.

Buy the Buick and make it a Hot Rod Power Tour type of car....i.e. easily maintainable mid HP engine...A/C, Power everything...kinda like this...

I vote Buick! The parts are out there to make a nice custom. You can be comfortable taking the whole family for a ride when its done. Good luck.

I'd go with the Buick too... Like you said, all the suspension, etc is the same as a Chevelle, and a back seat for the kids (get the family involved)...

I almost bought a 64 Buick Skylark 2-door Post last year (actually a "Special"), with a small block and a newer blue paint job (but a crappy, quickie job). Sad, because the car looked pretty good, except a few small dents that were painted over rather than fixed (20-footer?)... I passed, because I didn't want a project at the time...

The back seat is a huge selling point for me since we have my daughter and another baby on the way. I haven`t heard back from him if the seats are even there. It needs truck floors and front floors too I guess but for the price I can`t expect a cherry car. I don`t really want a project either but unfortunatly thats all I can afford. I can put a couple hundred into it every month, maybe more till I get it road worthy. The truck is a little further along and doesn`t have the room for the family but I might be able to get it with no cash out of my pocket. The guy wants a welder I have and i might even be able to work some cash into my pockets. Thanks guys.
