: ignition cut out?

i'm wondering if i'm missing out on something obvious. i'm running a 454 oval port motor with a msd blaster 2 coil and mallory unilite dist. i'm using the ballast resister that came with the distributer. sometimes while i'm driving along or idleing it will just cut out. usually one turn of the key and it fires right up. i thought i had a carb problem so i rebuilt the 750 dp(#4779 8.5pv 75pjet 76s jet)and set floats. on the other carb i know the float was sticking and flooding the motor occasionally. now i hit the key and it runs and idles awesome.
i took it out yesterday and it cut out twice. so i figure i'd go on a lonely stretch of road and let it all hang out. it goes to about 5K and starts breaking up. starts running badly coughing and spitting. limp it home and it dies in driveway. fuel pressure gauge reads 5 pounds. car wont start. engine is getting fuel. can the unilite module cause this to happen? also running R44ts plugs with about 500 miles on them on a 10-1 motor with 781 heads and extreme 274H cam. i know i gotta start digging thanx mike

I am running that same ignition, the only time I've ever had the symptoms you describe is when I forget to turn on my electric fuel pump. I use r43t plugs. I've heard when a module goes bad they quit altogether,no warning. I've run 3 unilite distributors and have never had one fail. Check the cap and rotor too.

I had a Lincoln one time that started dying for no reason then would start right back up. It was the ignition module.

im running the same ignition (unilite and blaster coil), when i got the car the previous owner wired the original resister wire to a resister on the firewall.

i experienced strange problems like that as well, i ended up getting rid of the factory resistor wire and running a new wire from the firewall harness plug to the resistor.
