my friend is gonna be getting an 84 camaro soon, and the engine has been rebuilt. but we dont know if it has forged or cast pistons, something we need to know to complete our build up. is there any way to tell if the pistons are forged or cast while they are still in the block? (and yes i am taking off the heads.)
thanks
mike

I have always used forged on everything on the bottom end of my motors...including pistons graemlins/hurray.gif But i can not honestly tell you which is better for you combo, i just use them because i was always told they were better and i do not know how to tell with in block.

Perhaps the part number off the face of the piston (if that's where it is) is all you need. Then look it up on the manufacturer's site.

Are you pulling the pan? If so you might be able to look inside the pisrton and see a number. From that it might be able to tell what you have. Also, some pistons have numbers on the top.

well we are buying new heads and pushrods, manifold, carb, headers and timing chain. the cam thats in there is diecent. (i guess from what my friend told me). we had no reason to pull then engine so far because we are keeping the cam in there. plus i dont know how to replace a cam/ bearings when its already in the block. but if we dont see any leaks we wanna keep the engine in. they look the same from the outside?
