that happend to my buddies car, he changed everything and couldnt find it, here it was his brand new optical ignition, threw brand new set of points in the car, and it ran like a champ, till it spun a crank bearing.

check your ignition, wires, plugs. then if cant find it, retrace wiring. thats pretty much all the advice i can give. oh, and maybe it has somthing to do witht the carb.

Just took the car out and drove it idleing it has about 15 or so psi..... b4 this all started happening I had about 30 or 35...... things dont sounds to promising......

yea i might have to i have an electrionic dist....

well what do u mean when i have it in drive when does it shift....

if im on it hard it shifts at about 4000 or 4100 or so automaticly but when im manually shiftin im turnin about 4200 or 4300 b4 i come outta 1st and 2nd

If your tach is doing wierd stuff, I'd suggest trying a new module. I have seen them do just that, but only for a few minutes before totally going out.

pony hunter i may do that......

some things i noticed.....

the noise anit so bad when you ease into the throttle but the noise is still there.

i had some bad gas just be 4 this started it had some water in it....... wasnt that bad when i was driving it with bad gas. it would just backfire threw the pipe a little when u let off of hard accelaration.....

and i took an inaccurate reading on the oil press

its 25 when idling in park....15 or 20 in drive idling..... and just shy of 50 when at 3000 rpms

i think i have something simple..... im thinking maybe its in the carb or module as mentiond

advise STILL WANTED!!!!!

about the shifting thats what i was wanting to know, my gauge cluster tach (finally put it in) was hanging up at 3000, now its loose to about 4100

didnt know if it was hanging there too or if thats just about where it should shift

by bad gas do you mean EZmart gas? graemlins/clonk.gif

I tried 5 bucks worth of that stuff once cause they were the only place open and my car ran bad for 4 days...I finally ran enough 93 octane through it to clean it out, cheap for a reason I suppose...

Anyway I'll talk to my dad about it and see what he suggests your prob might be as soon as I get off work

aight naw we had some gas put in there at the shop and the gas man didnt put the little 2 1/2 inch cap back up top and it came a down pour that night then we noticed it the next morning..... it had an eqaulity of ez mart gas.....

I got it out yesterday to drive it and as soon as i left the driveway it was tryin to die and i was runnin outta gas so we went and got a gallon from Jcs and then i drove it down there and filled it up with i think it is 91 octane

then i drove it home and it was runin like a raped ape :D  and then i drove it later on yesterday and it started doing all this bull crap..... graemlins/angry.gif

Hello there I was ready the prevous reply's not sure if you mentioned that your car has points or hei. If you going from points to hei and using the same wires then your not getting enough voltage for hei which requires 12volts. My 71 'velle did the same thing as yours at 4500rpm after running well for years with the points wire  . I don't know why it all of sudden hit the brick wall at 4500rpm but i ran a 12volt wire to 'er and it worked.

I have a points..... isnt it points when it has an internal coil??? so neways your sayin run a 12 volt wire to it and it should work

not sure about points thought they were all out bourd coils i switched my chevelle to hei right after i got it make sure you know which one you have before you do anything points run lower voltage for a reason. A resiter wire knocks down the voltage for points something like 7.2volts hei will run on that but not well you amp out the coil. If you have points the 12volt wire will burn the points out.

was taking the car to the shop and my tach started going crazy and it backfired and then died and sh!t i pulled it over and some guy said he thought it was my module that went out..... i tried to see if it would turn my tach over but it wouldnt move the tach so...... it has to be what ever that makes the tach work inside the distributer....... im guessing the module or coil graemlins/clonk.gif
