Hey guys just wondering if anyone has used this cam and what you thought.

http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Search/CamDetails.asp?PartNumber=11-246-3

Its the extreme energy 274h for BBC.

I was going to use it in a 454 with about 9.2-9.3:1 compression. Using a set of 206 heads with 2.19,1.88 valves, 97cc closed chambers. A 2200-2400 stall, 3:55 gears and either a beefed up TH350 or a TH400. Finally getting the last of my setup together. Just picking a cam and a set of pistons is all I have left. Probably going to use the Keith Black KB200 or KB202 pistons. No idea what the difference is between them guessing pressed and bushed since the measurements are all the same. Might ask Harold when he gets back if there is a better Lunati cam for my setup but dont really want to bug the poor guy to death.

Thanks,
Joe

edit - plan on using an RPM air gap manifold for it too.

I asked him on the phone if he gets tired of all the questions and the typing of the lengthy answers. He said absolutely not, he LOVES this stuff, so ask away.

As far as the XTreme 274H goes, it works very well in a 454. Just pick the right compression and you'll be fine. I'm not sure if you're going to be taking it to the track but I know of a 427 in a Chevelle that went low 12's in the 1/4 with that cam. IMHO, a 454 should go high 11's.

Thanks Rod, its good to know Harold doesnt get tired of all the people bugging him. I like the way this cams description looks but wanted to know how people really liked it. I was hoping to get the Elco into the high 11's so that sounds promising.

Harold's 280/288 Lunati p/n 302A7 would be somewhat analogous, and might be a bit easier on the valvetrain. Either are excellent choices. The Lunati wouldn't mind a bit more compression.

Joe,

I got a set of brand new, still in the box, KB 202-100's if you want them?? (True, .100" over flat-tops)...

I got bit by the "more power, Scotty" bug and built my 496" instead of a 475" motor!!

Get back to me at home and I will see if we can make a deal??
