What is the difference between a Carter and a Rodchester q-jet #7028212?

The Rochester unit was manufactured by Rochester Products Div., General Motors
The Carter unit was manufactured for General Motors by Carter Carburetor. They are nearly identical and interchangable.

Now it comes back to me. Wasn't there a fire at the Rodchester plant and GM had to contract with Carter to built the Q-Jets?

Dunno about a fire, but my Q-Jet was manufactured by Carter in 1978. I heard that Rochester went on strike and since GM owned the "moulds" to the carb design, they handed the production over to Carter for a short time. I guess they did this a few times in the 70s. I really don't know if its true; I haven't done much research into it. It would be good info to have, though. Just more useless knowledge that is very interesting, but not necessary. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
