Well it's been 4 years since I have been with team chevelle. I sold my 71 Chevelle back in march of 04. You might remember me as BigBlock454. You might not. Eitherway, i bought another chevelle out of new mexico. Can you all help me decipher the cowl tag. All i got from the books i have is the green paint code.

69-13637 8F 12475 BDY
795 B80 59 S PNT
01A 610785 030645

VIN number is 136379Z325964

What can you guys make of this?

I got a few things. And please confirm.. The car is a malibu base hard top coupe. The paint code comes up with a frost lime or lime metallic. And I think it was made in Flint, MI.

Thanks for your time!:beers:

Mike, The tags decode as follows:

Vin: Z= Freemont, assembled in California
325964=25964th VIN issued at Freemont plant

BF 12475= number of the 3637 body style built by Fisher at the Freemont plant
795=dark greeen interior, bench seat
59 S= frost green lower with green vinyl top
01A= body began assembly the first week of Jan 1969
610785 030645=data processing number (610785 0645) and schedule number (03)

Hope that helps, I'll check my research list and see if I have it listed and any other info,
Andy

So is it possible to be an SS? I have read the books and know that without the original motor, it's hard or impossible to tell if it is indeed a true SS in 1969.

but anyway, this is pretty much what it looked like + or - the SS trim.???

Is it possible? sure, but as you mentioned it may be impossible without the original enigne or original documentation. If you are lucky enough to have original interior there may be a chance a build sheet or trim sheet could be found and assist in helping but with the reproductions today that is even questionable at times. Engines are also being restamped alot more for those who are trying to make a buck on the market. Do a search on here and look for build sheet locations and how to ID an SS and you will find alot of good info on what you can do without documentation or an original engine, not 100% proof but maybe enough for you to know one way or the other and that is really what matters isn't it? If you get a chance I'd like to get a pic of the trim tag and car to add to my research, good luck with the car. I can be reached direct at Andrew710@aol.com, take care Andy

FWIW, The B80 RPO is found on 3637 tags and B80 and B90 are both found on 3680 tags. The reason for this is not known at this time, still looking into it. Anyone have some additional info? take it easy, Andy
