: All you gear drive people take a look
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 5:28 PM As some of you guys know I've been fighting this thing. I'm still thinking about putting a double roller in its place. I've moved the marks and lined them up again as best I could. I spun the engine around and checked them again to make sure. I just wanted another opinion on it this time. I just don't realy like the placeing of the top mark. Thanks.

Schurkey May 19th, 04, 5:36 PM Bolt on a degree wheel and dial indicator and find out where it REALLY is.
What do you see if you stretch a string from the center of the top gear to the center of the bottom gear? Does having a straight reference line help to show up misalignment of the marks?
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 6:12 PM I have neither the funds or the knowledge to degree it in nor do I want to disassemble any more of the engine than I have to.
66chevyIISS May 19th, 04, 6:15 PM when I had my gear drive I watched my builder install it. He also had to degree it in. The gear drive had different bushings that you needed to use depending on where the cam was degreed. It would go in the middle of the top gear that bolts to the cam.
chevelleracer May 19th, 04, 6:45 PM if you cant degree it and you dont want to take it apart. then just run it. it should be fine
REV350 May 19th, 04, 7:11 PM obviously the timing dot has been placed slightly off centre,if it where me I would run it as is..
it should be fine.......
Purs May 19th, 04, 7:44 PM I pulled mine and put a double roller in after I heard one in person. It sounded cool but I was afraid I'd get tired of it after awhile...
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 8:00 PM I heard mine run and I liked it. I was haveing a low vacuum problem and I blame it on the timing.
gasgzlr May 19th, 04, 8:31 PM Who made your gear drive?
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 8:40 PM Edelbrock Accu-Drive
SethT May 19th, 04, 10:18 PM I can tell from looking at that that if you go so much as one tooth either clockwise or counter-clockwise you will be way off. Hence you are on the mark. Run it. If you think that is marked poorly, you should see the cam cogs on Asian imports
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 10:25 PM That's a scary thought.
BPOS May 19th, 04, 10:40 PM E-mail that pic to Edelbrock and see what they have to say about it.
Bad Rat 414 May 19th, 04, 10:46 PM When I installed it the first time I aimed at the top of the groove on the cam gear beside the dot. I think that was wrong. This time I went for the tooth itself.
ovelle May 20th, 04, 5:27 AM mine lined up perfectly

427L88 May 20th, 04, 9:32 AM Check the cam timing using the quick and dirty method. If its close, button it up.
You gonna like all that noise???
Bad Rat 414 May 20th, 04, 11:53 AM I can't hear it inside the car over the glasspacks.
427L88 May 20th, 04, 1:20 PM graemlins/thumbsup.gif That would be a correct answer !
