Last summer I had to turn out the mixture adjusting screws almost 3 full turns to get the car to idle good.

In looking at the web site of a guy that is a TC member and restores carb ,the site seemed to recommend that you remove the metering block well plugs as that was shown on his site. So I tried, The first plug no problem and looked like the plugs I got from Holley.

I tried to drill the second plug, it seemed to thick, so I stopped. And it is not at all like the replacement plugs I bought.

Is the metering block destroyed? I can put a plug in the outside hole. But don't want to go any further with the inside plug until I can get some advise. Appreciate any and all advise. Thanks.

Jim;

The center inserts aren't well plugs in this instance, they're emulsion tubes which consist of a brass "slug" with a tiny tube inserted into the bottom of the slug which sticks down into the main well.

Unfortunately, as you're finding out, they're a bit tricky to remove.

You also have to be careful when drilling them as some are thicker (deeper) than others, and if you break through to the bottom of the slug you can destroy the tube if you're not careful.

Shoot me a PM and I'll try to help you out. (certain things I don't wish to discuss on the open forum)
