I know most people's feelings on DD and I know the numbers that are spit out are usualy high. Harold, you have made the comment that DD can not know the shape and size of the lobe and I understand this too. I use DD to look at peak rpm for hp and torque and the torque curve. When I enter cam specs on my engine, (10.75 355, Stock sportsman II, RPM intake, 650DP) the 276/284 .518/.530 make a good bit more torque in a wider range and slightly less or about the same hp than larger 280/288 and 288/296 that have been recommended. Is this due to DD not being able to see the entire lobe? My car weighs 3380 with me in it and runs a 1.67 60' with a Lunati BMII 292/.480 cam. I want to make a change to a solid and go faster but I want my 60' to speed up or stay the same. Has using DD for too many years made me too conservative on cams?

Unless you are willing to run race gas, don't go too much smaller on the cam. Also, don't forget you need to go about 8º bigger with a solid cam, due to lash, to match size with an hydraulic cam.

Is the duration increase more important a .05 or advertised?

My understanding is, 8º more at .050" and let the adv fall where it may. However, the adv effects the DCR and the .050" doesn't, so keep that in mind.

I guess what I realy need to know now is if I am under cammed for my combo. I know there are better Hydraulics out there but am I where I should be duration wise. If I'm good where I'm at, a solid in the 240 range at .05 is what I need but if I'm under cammed I may need a 250 @ .05.
