: The Dominator is In The House
Ron454 Dec 18th, 04, 2:07 AM Again, Hey gang,
Well, it took awhile to hook up, but finally got together with my friend and bought the 1050 Dominator and Manifold.
Both are nearly brand new.
9375-1 HP carb
Victor 454R manifold
Gads is the carb big! Dwarfs my 950.
And both set-ups are sitting in my living room along with the AFR 305 CNC heads.
Now is that a car guy or what?
A 49y/o car guy at that.
Well, it looks like HP, but the dyno wil tell.
On a 498 that "should" make 650+ hp......do you all think the Victor 454R manifold is correct?
Or would the Super Victor be a better choice???
For just another $250.....I wouldn't mind trying another manifold....
As long as someone buys the stuff I don't use.
Sure gald it's Friday night.
Ron
69 Ratt Vette Dec 18th, 04, 11:49 AM The Super Victor is probably too much for that motor, gotta try it to be sure though.
Harold Sutton Dec 18th, 04, 12:29 PM The 454R manifold works good, the Super Victor is a little large. The 9375 carb is kinda hard on spark plugs as it is a little rich just off idle. We haven't found a cure for this yet.
Ron454 Dec 18th, 04, 2:28 PM I notice that the entry to the runners in the plenum at the top are not at all smooth. Very abrupt.
So I assume an open spacer is a good idea.
Do you folks add the spacer then work that area to make a smoother transition? Or just leave it alone?
Other manifolds I've used are much nicer in this area. But they are 4150 manifolds. I've never played with the 4500 stuff.
Also I see that these dominator carbs don't have power valves. And are suppose to come with 88 jests all around. I believe the carb I got has 92's in it. I will go back to the 88's for the dyno and work from there.

BLK64SS Dec 18th, 04, 2:58 PM The 9375 is intended for a 2x4 setup and will need some work done to get it to run right on a single carb app.
I just went through this with some guidence from a freind.
Ron454 Dec 18th, 04, 3:24 PM I knew it was for a 2x4 setup....but when I asked here, folks said it's fine. They assured me......
So can you give me the details of what it took to make right?
It did come from a car with just the one carb.
Don't leave me hangin!

BillsCamino Dec 18th, 04, 3:39 PM Good luck with the Dominator. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Mine worked great on the dyno and at full throttle but in actual street driving conditions at a partial pedal, the thing would balk, bumble, sneeze and stumble.
We tried everything to remedy this.
Finally, on a racer friend's recommendation, I replaced the 1050 Dominator with a 995 King Demon RS. Right out of the box, the motor now runs like it's injected! Awesome response on both the street and track.
And BTW...I run a Super Victor... the 454R is too small for my application.
BLK64SS Dec 18th, 04, 4:18 PM Rons.... you got mail
BillsCamino .. thats where a PV circuit instead of an intermediate circuit comes in .. with this carb atleast
BillsCamino Dec 18th, 04, 4:22 PM Yeah, mine was model 8896.
A "three circuit" carb which I understand kind of complicates things in a street application.
Ron454 Dec 18th, 04, 4:28 PM Neither the 9375 or the 8896 comes with a primary power valve.
Ron
BLK64SS Dec 18th, 04, 6:07 PM I blocked off the inter. circuit and added the PV circuit, also added removeable fuel restrictors in the idle and main circuits
Ron454 Dec 18th, 04, 6:19 PM BLK64SS.....I like those Chevelles BTW.
I sent you an email.
I'm a bit slow today....and that's a dial up thing!

Ron Our 8896 came with 2 power valves (5.5`s)
Ron454 Dec 19th, 04, 5:47 PM Very interesting.
I was going off Holley's Numerical Listing (available on their web site), and for both the 8896 and 8896-1 is shows no power valves.........
I can't copy the list for you becuase it's a PDF...but that's what it says.
I'm going to take my 9375-1 apart as soon as I log out here and see what it has.
Thanks,
Ron
540Hotrod Dec 19th, 04, 8:18 PM I have a 9375 also. I ended up blocking the intermediate circuit completely on primary side only and I drilled PVCR's and added a PV to the primary side only. Otherwise it will be dead fat in the off idle and cruising ranges. I'm using #81-#82 primary jets these days depending on weather on primary side and it's perfect.
My PVCR's are a little larger than usual, or at least what Holley says can be fed with a std PV, but the fuel curve is fine.
I also changed linkage to the "super soft" progressive stuff to keep it on primaries as much as possible in street cruising.
Annulars get a little fat on the top end, if you have removable air bleeds you'll be able to tweek that easily.

Ron454 Dec 20th, 04, 2:50 AM Hi Jim.
More good info, thanks. Duane said pretty much the same thing.
How big did you make the PVCR's?
