I just wanted to report that I successfully swapped my 2-barrell carb/intake for a 4-bbl Q-jet! I can really tell a difference now, powerwise. Also, now I can really tell what my gearing is doing(2.56): I really don't seem to have THAT much low end, but can feel it pulling harder, the higher my MPH gets. But besides that, the Q-jet works so well in terms of cold starting and stuff--way better than the 2-barrell's automatic choke. I don't even know if the Q-jet choke is tuned quite right, and I still start and go cold. The best part is I bolted it on and it ran perfectly! I only had to adjust my idle speed and that was just my preference. The best part is I rebuilt the carb myself, and it was my first time, so I feel pretty accomplished! graemlins/thumbsup.gif Thanks to everyone who helped with my little odds and ends questions.. :D

Why do you think GM used millions of the suckers??
That's why, imho..
A Q-Jet is a very under-rated carb. b/c most don't know how to play with it AND I'm in that cat. too!!

PS., and I bet your mileage will pick up unless you get ta liking the secondaries "bawlling" when they kick in like I always did..

Taylor, good work man! They are an "elegant" carb design, and the trouble becomes on modified engines since they are more difficult to tune than a Holley. But for most spplications, they work fine 'stock' and give you superior compromises between power and economy.
Again, a very 'elegant' or 'sophisticated' metering mechanism , for sure.
