Does anyone have any info or seen a con vin on a 69 fremont build chevelle? I've been looking for mine on the firewall with no luck. its a bare shell so it should be easy to find, is it located elsewhere? other then on the frame.

I stamped the vin on all the doors, fenders, hood etc and have taken pictures and want one of the firewall which unless fremont didnt do it, I will also stamp the firewall.

I thought this was a federal mandate to have vin stamping on the body, maybe the line worker was at lunch.

Jim,
Check out this thread. (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196760)

Also, search with the keywords: con, vin, frame (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/search.php?searchid=2480001) gets you quite a bit of info, too.

Thank Brent, I did do a search and seen what Dale posted on that thread.

I know the vin is on the frame but being a federal mandate that was to start in 69, I figured that maybe being a early built 69 (9-68) that gm did not start stamping the vin intil 69 or was stamped some where else other then the firewall.

I read here on TC the federal mandate was 1968 but not sure if it was calendar year or model year. In any event, it may not have included body panels but may have been limited to engine assemblies. There seems to be differences between plants as to whether one was stamped on the firewall or not - I do know the big block engines were stamped in different locations depending on the plant. Maybe a survey on firewalls being stamped would be helpful?

There is no CON vin on my 69 Fremont built Malibu. Like you my car is completely disassembled so there is no way I missed it.
