I have a Sept. 2001 article of CHP which they show a 355 that makes 506 HP at 6500 rpm and 436 ft lbs of torque at 5500 rpm. They claim:

"The key is a combination of AFR 195 heads and a Comp cams XR300HR hydraulic roller cam."Of course the rest of the combo includes a ZZ4 block with a blueprined crank, Federal-Mogul pistons, Edelbrock Victor Jr intake, 850 cfm Demon double pumper carb with a 1 inch carb spacer, Hooker 1 3/4 inch headers, Flowmaster 2 1/2 inch mufflers and an MSD 6AL ignition. The c.r. is 10:1

The specs on the cam are 248/254 degrees at .050-inch tappet lift 0.562/0.580-inch lift with 1.52 roller rockers and 110 degree lobe seperation angle.

I've never seen this cam advertised but I would like to know if anyone knows if it's still avaliable? What kind of stall would you need?

dawg, Companies like Comp Cams make so many products that it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to separately advertise ALL the different parts they have to offer. So instead they choose to highlight the most popular or interesting parts.

If you go to their web site you will see that cam part #08-444-8 listed for $353.07. It is an off the shelf design, and as might be expected requires more than 10:1 compression ratio and converter stall speed greater than 3,500 rpm.

I personally would never use a HR cam that big. I'd just go to the solid roller version of that cam and be done with it. You're looking at a hydraulic roller cam and an intake that will want to run to 7000 RPM --- if you can keep that HR valvetrain together at that RPM in the real world great, go for it.

so who has tried the rhoads setup? Seems like a pretty cool setup....

I don't know of any roller Rhoads lifters, but I could merely be ignorant.

I installed a couple of sets of those in customer engines when they first came out back in the early 80s, against my advice to the customers; every single one of them either paid me to replace them with regular ones (in some cases along with a more correct cam for their combo), or did it themselves.

Like most things that sound too good to be true, it seems that this one is no diffferent.
