What is the acceptable ranges of thrust bearing clearance that you guys like to use? I am getting about .003 without putting constant tension on the crank with a screwdriver. If I zero the indicator with constant rearward pressure and then read it with constant forward pressure I get about .005. Is this ok?

Doc You are fine at .005 with some pressure. You have to remember you have oil in there taking up some clearance if you just push it back & forth ;)
Did you loosen the rear cap & retighten it while prying the crank forward?
Try it both ways, sometimes it will change if you pry to the rear.

Thanks for all of your help Mike. I really appreciate it. I wasnt sure if you read the clearance while prying or not.

.005-.008 is acceptable for most performance crankshafts.
