I'm rebuilding an old 67 SS Chevelle race car which was built in the early 90's and raced for 10 years and then parked in 2000. I'm thinking of installing one of Bill Mitchell's 800 H.P. 540 engines. With the following set up is this too much motor for my car? I'd like to run in the mid 10's and set it up so I could run supersteet once I learn enough. The car will weigh 3100# has a turbo 400 w/ Transbrake, and reversed valve body, I'll match torque converter to new engine. Rear end is a 12 bolt w/ spool, 4:56 gears, Moser 35 spline axels. Morrison upper and lower arms.10 x 29 Hoosiers. What do you think? I don't want to spend $$ that will never get to the ground.

i don't think you need to spend the dollars on a 540 to achieve your goal. an 454 based motor cound get you that performance in that car easily. you might even need/want to pull some gear out of it. mike
