hey guys, i'm very slowly trying to get my car back together. i got my eng. harness and was hooking it up to the wiper motor..... anyway can anyone tell me where to find a replacement for the tcs relay????? i have a 70 396 4 spd. car with cowl ind. the build sheet says it came with it (tcs ) however i don't think it had it when i tore it apart 8 yrs. ago. it's been so long i don't remember what it even did. sorry for my ignorance, i've got 4 mouths to feed and had to put this on the back burner for awhile due to money issues. i'm hoping to get it on the road by sep. it won't be a matching numbers show car, but a very nice driver. i'll be bugging you guys more and more as i try to get this car together, thanks in advance.
(name)...I may have a used one. Are you making the system functional? Do you know the stamped number?

tony, the number i have is 3961573. i haven't decided if i should make it functional as i don't know what this does. thanks, gus.
About the 3rd page of this thread has some good info on the TCS.

I have the 1573. It is attached to a wire gutter that I think is from an Impala.

If you went into the Yenko site and read the comments, you learned that the Transmission Control Solenoid was a way for GM to reduce emissions when the Federalies were starting to get cranky. While trying to control emissions in this day and age is a noble cause, I doubt very seriously if any of our (older) cars are going to make that big of a difference.
Just my opinion, but you would be better served to bypass the General's good intentions and go full time vacuum advance. If nothing else, you should see an improvement on your bottom end and bypassing it will have nothing but positive results.
By the way, when I detailed my engine compartment ('70 Elky L34/TH400), I tried to get a replacement for the control relay for cosmetic purposes. I couldn't find one anywhere.

If you are putting the car back correct- I have a # of a guy who has them-they are not GM pieces but look real nice and work. A NOS piece on e-bay goes about $500.00!!! I bought mine for $80.00. If you want his name and number I have it on my rolo-dex at work. let me know. Norman
