I'm in the process of putting together a 406 with 6" rods.I have 2 or 3 outside rod bolt nuts that are pretty darn close to the block. What is the minnimum clearance to be safe?I would say the tightest one is around .030.

I think that most engine builders shoot for .050"

What kind of rods are you using?? I used Eagles & they actually hit my block on # 8.. I don't know if it will be any help, but here are some pix of the cutting I had to do(I went to about .070)

I used Scats 4340 I-beam rod.I believe #8 was the tightest one on mine also. Most all the others have so much clearance I didnt even bother to check them.

I also had about .049 with the Scat I beam cap screw #8. It saw 6K RPM yesterday on the dyno....no windows so far :D
