Harold I need a new cam for my 496 BBC. Redoing her after a couple years with a solid tappet and stock heads. I was looking at your 502A1LUN grind and your 502A3LUN grind. Car is a 1972 all steel chevelle, 496 BBC, 10.75 compression, TH-400, 2500 stall, 3.73 gears in a 12 bolt, Canfield 310cc cnc heads, ( I bought these used at a good price a few months ago but am considering the new Brodix RaceRite oval ports)2 inch hookers, smile.gif a worked Holley 950 HP, undecided on a intake manifold, leaning towards a dual plane though. This car is 80% street and 20% strip, track is for fun. Harold are these cams easy on valvetrain? Which one would you reccommend? Thanks.

FattMattBBC,

Either cam will work. I have used the 502A1 family as daily drivers for about 20 years. They will certainly go over 2000 miles in 24 hours. The 112 LSA aND 496 cid really mellow that cam down, and it would be a great daily driver.
The 502A3 makes more torque, and has been used for a daily driver for about 17-18 years. A 502 using the 284 as an intake lobe made the front cover of PHR, 3700 lbs 3.9 rear, 3000 SS---11.10's after a 125 mile drive to the strip.....
Either cam is completely satisfactory for normal daily street driving. The 502A1 is better in heavy traffic, etc. The 502A3 makes more torque.
Take your pick.....
