Has anybody used speed pro cams. My 383 shortblock came with one. The specs are dur@.050 220/231 int - .468 exh - .480 lobe cl 110 and overlap 80.

Very old design. There are much better cams out there. You can tell by the overlap that it has a lot of advertised duration. With enough duration for 80º overlap, and having 220/231 @ .050" it has very lazy ramps but is very eazy on the springs. I estimate the adv at 296/304 or there abouts. Most modern cams with that much adv would have .050 durations in the 240/260 range. Conversely, a modern cam with 220/231 @ .050 would have advertised durations in the 264-280 range with about 50-65º overlap.

Thanks Pat. I'm thinking about a different cam setup.

sounds like a plan. Since the sb is already built, how hard is it to swap cams? Its still in short block mode sitting on the stand.

Pretty easy at this point. Hopefully the damper is off but if not it is not too hard to pull. If the pan is on, it will have to come off. The front cover comes off then it's very easy.

sounds good. damper was never installed and nothing else is on. Time to go shopping.
