: "cheesy" painted white lettering on drag slicks

Im looking for some tips on any products that I can use to remove the cheesy painted white lettering on my drag slicks. The slicks are mounted on polished rims and whatever I use cant damage them or the soft rubber compound of the slick. Someone mentioned something called "rubber buff" but I cant seem to find any info about it.
Thanks, Tony

Actually, the "cheesy" white letters serve a purpose.
The letters will discolor if the slicks have been overheated.

What do you use paint them on with in the first place?

That might give you a clue about what to use to take it off.

I'd be careful using any type of solvents that may possibly breakdown the slick's sidewall rubber composition. :(
Tony,
Have you tried emailing or calling the tire manfacturer?

Tony,

Like you, I don't care for the lettering on slicks. I always black mine out. I've done it a few different ways. One, you can buy one of those block style sharpies and go over them. Two, a can of flat black paint works nicely, too. As far as hurting the tires, I'm not sure. Maybe that's why my 60' times suck smile.gif Oh wait, I had a 1.45 60' just last weekend.

On Hoosier tires. I use Whesleys tire bleach and a scotch brite pad. Comes off with a little elbow grease.

I contacted both the national and regional Hoosier dealers this afternoon. No-one was in that could answer Tech :(
I did send an e-mail

My 60's might hit the 1.70's this year LOL

Im very weary of using any solvents around the soft rubber.. Apparently no-one has heard of this rubber buff stuff?

I used lacquer thinner on my Hoosiers. Didn't seem to hurt anything.

I don't like 'em either BUT when you're video taping the launch or having someone watch for tire spin, they come in handy so you can see the amount of spin in relation to car movement.

I dislike having to paint a white shoepolish stripe on my tires even worse that the letters.

That's why I leave 'em on.

It hit 60 here today so I just used the lacquer thinner and cleaned up with some soapy water just in case there was any residue. It couldnt have been any easier. graemlins/clonk.gif Thanks.
