Hi Harold...

Saw your posts about going to 3.50's in the Chevelle.

Now if I'm thinking right...when you dropped from 4.11's to 3.89's and when you used taller tires it all slowed it down.....

Now it's faster with 3.50's..a BUNCH faster?

Did we get a new bigger/badder motor together???

Doesn't sound to logical does it? My son had an impromptu street race after the recent gear change and also got the nitrous working much better on top of which he used a #6 line. He claims the motor has never felt like this and he had trouble getting the car slowed down afterwords, go figure. The new motor is still in the back of the garage but i'm sure he'll try it if this one isn't as fast as it feels. I think we will get a chance to try this one before the shootouts begin. I hope he's right about the car's ability now so there will be more on the table later with the "bad" motor installed. This street race is only the second time it has skated at the top of high gear and the other one, which was at the strip netted a trap speed of 146.88 after lifting because it was loose and he got uneasy.

Hey harold, do you mean your son uses a #6 line to feed that engine? I'm just starting to work up the parts list for my new fuel system and I was going to go with #8 and I don't have as much engine as he does. I'm just wondering if maybe I don't as large a line as I'm figuring for. Thanks, Jeff

I think he means a #6 line for the nitrous, of course I could be wrong.

Hi quikss, Purs is right, this is the nitrous line size, in shootout trim we are only allowed a #4 nitrous line going from the bottle to the solenoid. Kinda levels out the playing field. I imagine the fuel line is #8 or #10.

Wow...I was thinking maybe you had that 598 together or a 632 or something! Thought maybe you had tried the new heads.....

You must have really got the N2O tune together for it to like to lay back and grunt like that!

Congratulations..8's aren't far away! Not sure if you aren't already there!

He put the #6 nitrous line on and a #6 "Y" fitting to the two stages. It has a small shot on the first stage (usually 100) and then a timer brings in the second (275) and drops the first stage off. Maybe he did something different besides the #6 line but he didn't say so. He's been working on trying to find the restrictions to get close to the 300 that some of the other guys have had for quite some time. The speedshop car has run 9.02 @ 151 with a #4 line and a 8.98 @ 152 with a #6 line. Four hundreths and less than one MPH with the bigger line. We will need a 8.90 something or better to win the first race of the coming season. If we get a chance to test before the first shootout i'll know if the improvement is real or imaginary. I think maybe there may be something that he hasn't mentioned yet. He likes to treat me like a mushroom, (feed me B.S. and keep me in the dark).

Hi Purs, My email is messed up right now but should be back up in a couple of days. I hadn't payed my ISP's yearly fee until a couple of days ago but it should be O.K. soon. If you need an answer before then just put it up here.

Hi Tony Z, I'm hoping the E.T. gets progressively quicker this year. That will be as much fun as beating the Mustangs that are constantly telling everybody how fast they are around here. There are about three or four that talk like they are already running eights and have the first shootout race in the bag. Sure is fun watching them fade as they try to catch the old Chevelle. It's also likely that our engine combination will change soon. (9.22 & 147.61 MPH is the best so far but more coming soon). Our #6 line nitrous times should be better than this. I'll post when we try it, everything is closed right now and there is ice everywhere. By the way the current setup is '70 Chevelle SS454 clone, 13-1, 540 cu.in. Dart Big Block, Dart "335CNC" heads, 9" Ford R.E./ with 3.50 gears, 2 stage N2O-NOS big shot plate (100-275), second stage drops first when activated, ATI Turbo 350 trans., car with driver 3620 lbs., certified full mild steel roll cage w/window net, Glasstech 4" raised fiberglass hood, Dark metallic green with white stripes. ( It can be seen over on the MAKO Ten Five Board or the Mo-Kan Board from the last shootout race, which i think was oct. 23, 2004). More muscle soon.
