Hi guys,
My dad is also restoring a 67 SS and he watched an orginal 67 4-speed console sell on ebay for $1300. Now him and I bother need 4-speed consoles but since the aftermarket 66-67 consoles are selling for $450, are they really that bad quality or was it just an originallity thing?

thanks,
wes

Not all of them go for $1300. It all depends on the condition. I have seen really nicely restored ones go for $700.00. As for the after market stuff, I dont know how they fit. But if they fit like most of the other after market stuff, it is better to have an original piece. Buy one and get restored. That just my opinion. I never seen nor have I heard how those after market pieces are fitting.

The after market consoles are not cast metal tops, they are plastic. I have not heard feedback on the fit / quality. If anyone has bought one, please let us know your opinion.

I bought a nice 4 speed console off eBay a few months back, missing the clock, for $350. Be patient, you will do OK. IMO the chrome on the front top is the key to the console.

1 more question; has anyone fit a reproduction base to an original top?

I haven't heard of fit issues with the aftermarket console, I have a original console in my car. I did look into buying the the upper parts for the console (chrome pieces). I did not get them because they are plastic!!, The orignal ones are metal, I had mine rechromed and repainted them.
