i am currently building a 70 ss clone, the car came with chrome guards/covers over the rockers. My dad likes the looks of them cause his 67 has them, but I was wondering if the covers were an option that a origional ss could be ordered with.

SS cars did not come with them. I have seen some with them that were added by a dealer or someone else. It's the one thing I look for look for to tell if it is a true SS or a true clone. The Malibu came with rocker panels.

Then you may get surprised, I have a friend that ordered his Cranberry Red 70 SS396 in late 69, when the dealer called him to say it was coming in he went to the dealership to see it. When he got there it was still on the truck and he took some pics of it on the truck, it had the rocker moldings. I've seen the pics, he still has the car and it still has the moldings on it. Unusual? Yes, impossible? No. The funny thing is, it was supposed to be an L78, it came in as a L34.
