I'm wondering whether I should plan on using an electric water pump and electric fans on my 454 for bracket racing on weekends as well as a cruis-in from time to time, or would I be just as happy running a conventional setup i.e. belt driven mechanical water pump and fan. How much would I be loosing in E.T. by going conventional ? Thanks for any pro's and con's

You could set up a Moroso water pump drive on it,,,use it at the track, use the stock belt when on the street. You ought to be able to switch back n forth in less than a half hour.

Electric water pump ( or drive )and fan is the way to go for a bracket car, leave them both off when you want to warm it up. And either get a " TIK TOK " box so it cycles the fan/water pump or cycle it yourself when you shut the engine off to cool it down between rounds.

Mr. Gasket also makes an electric water pump drive kit, looks identical to the pictures of the Moroso, but it's a little cheaper, available from Jeg's, not sure about Summit.

Definitly elec pump and fan for the strip. It's extremely hard to cool down between rounds without one. (I use the Moroso drive, one of the best things I ever did.) As Robert said, it pretty easy to change over between the drive and the V belt for street use. I don't think the Moroso/Mr. Gasket drive will keep up on the street. You could even leave the fan on the pump and let the drive turn it, saving the cost of an electric fan. But it would make changing over more difficult.

i agree with tom also as far as fan, go to junk yard and pick up a electric fan for a late 90 buick reagle they pull alot of air and are fairly easy to mount.simple togle switch and reley and you have it.will work on the street also.20 dallars is what i paid for mine .also for those who dont know the 80s modle fairmont heater motor is a direct replacement for the moroso and mr gasket water pump motor and only about 20 dallars or about half as much as the moroso at auto zone
