Hi,
I was wondering if there is anyway of telling me whether this car is a '69 Chevelle SS or a Malibu. Here are the numbers:
Trim Tag: ST 69 13637 ATL228395 BDY
TR 784 57 57 PNT
03B
Sergio 69 SS396

1969 is a year that there is no true way of knowing you have an SS unless you can decode the engine, tranny, and/or rear axle code. The trim tag and VIN will not tell you if you have a Malibu or the SS. the 13637 tells of a Malibu but the SS's were also 13637. So there ya go.
If your car is Hugger Orange, it is an SS because only SS's came in that color. Otherwise, you need to decode your engine. If it's not the original, you might be screwed unless you have a Muncie or Posi rear axle. So try decoding your tranny and rear axle!!
Btw, you had a car built in Atlanta and the 784 is your interior color is medium green with a bench seat. 57 57 means you have a top color of 57 and a bottom color of 57 (no vinyl top! yay). 57 = fathom green.

As Sergio mentions the tags will not determine if it is an original SS. I would point out though that the Muncie transmission (RPO M20/M21/M22) and posi (RPO G80) were options available on any of the chevelles, therefore not a specific way to determine SS origin. Best bet is to check the car over and search this site and ask questions, alot of tips on what to look for on a potential SS body and people to help. hope this helps Andy
