LateNight72 Mar 1st, 08, 12:43 AM Too large for my tastes.
CustomChevyGuy Mar 1st, 08, 12:50 AM i prefer the smaller ones, stick closer to the original - but thats just me.
i had some rocket looking ones on my 71 - think they may have been off an 80's camaro or something. found some smaller cheap-os that look alot closer to the originals - so i swapped them out.
but its all up to you, when it comes down to it.
HerrKooled Mar 1st, 08, 1:16 AM i voted the latter
1badss396 Mar 1st, 08, 9:41 AM So much for that idea Rich, LOL:noway:
Derek69SS Mar 1st, 08, 9:45 AM Way too big.
Look for 92-98 Buick LeSabre and the Oldsmobile version of the same car. They are similar in shape as those, but much smaller. They fit the angle of 68-69 door perfectly, and look like they'd fit 66-67 just as well.

Joel642DRpost Mar 1st, 08, 2:40 PM There a little to big in my opinion. The one's on derek's 69 seem to look a little smaller and fit better. The broken mirror on the driver's side will be hard to see out of. lol! It's up to you. Aftermarket one's are fine.
Kim57 Mar 1st, 08, 4:39 PM They look like truck mirrors.

Derek,
Do these fold in or are the stationary? I guess I'll make another trip to the yard .... I saw some on an Audi.. they were square but smaller ....
Here is the Audi mirror I was in the yars.. It had an allen bolt and I didint have one with me ....

Bow_Tied Mar 3rd, 08, 1:43 PM Nice mirrors Derek! I'd say sweet ride too, but that should be assumed anytime it is a 69. ;)

That looks very similar to the mirrors on 92-98 Bonnevilles. The Buick & oldsmobiles of that generation had the smaller rounded mirrors (as seen on my car) and the Bonnevilles had the more rectangular looking mirrors with the same mounting angle. The Bonneville mirrors may look good with the 66-67s more boxy body lines.
It was just luck that I stumbled onto the Buick/Olds mirrors... While my 69 was in my Dad's body shop, an Oldsmobile came in with a busted mirror (backing out of garage incident). Dad replaced it and chucked the old one in the trash, and I noticed it in there and layed it up to the door on my car. About 5 minutes later, I had Dad on the phone with a local salvage yard looking for non-power versions (which are harder to find than power ones) :D

mcmlxix Mar 7th, 08, 12:34 AM Ok... Went to the yard today.. got a set like Derek's ... Used the existing holes from the factory mirror and only had to add one... then I realized my vent window will not swing all the way open .. only about two inches... oh well ... Maybe whe I actually get to the bodywork I'll move them so the vent windows clear.. for now its good... I got the power mirrors.... I tested the motors today... I'll need to figure out the wiring.... here are a couple pics...

The wind wings need only open enough to ash a cig.
I have a 69 El Key I am going to get the mirrors Derek recommended.
Does any one know on the power mirror versions where the motor for the mirror is? In the door?
harrod Mar 7th, 08, 9:24 AM Hmmm I think I've seen this look before [ears]

I dont smoke and its a factory A/C car.... so I wasnt too worried ...
I got the power mirrors like Derek's.. The motor is behind the glass... Make sure you get the pigtail with the factory harness... I tested my motors with a 12volt trickle charger for the motorcycle.... There are 4 wires for each mirror on mine... The hard part will be finding a good switch that will fit in the chevelle somewhere and then figuring out how to wire it!

Rich where did you get the mirrors from, and did you get the Buick ones or the Pontiac ???
Derek69SS Mar 7th, 08, 2:32 PM Those are the Buick/Oldsmobile mirrors. Pontiac are slightly bigger, and more rectangular.
Chevy fan attic Mar 7th, 08, 2:57 PM Not to be PITA what model Oldsmobubble? I know the Buicks are Park ave.
Now If I only knew where to get them,,,,,,, I would rather buy them new, new motors and all. I called a dealer here in Calif and they wanted to know the VIN # If I had that they claim I could get them from Buick.???????????????????????????
Its not that I am not trying.
mcmlxix Mar 7th, 08, 9:05 PM I went to the local Pick-A-Part yard and got the mirrors from a 1997 Oldsmobile 98 ...$15 bucks eack .... :D...
eBay is wonderful for this kind of research.... use vin# 1g3hn52k7v4826389 for your dealer . .. check out eBay # 250222354327 to see the car this vin came from....
forcd ind Mar 8th, 08, 9:04 AM reminds me of the kid in school with ears that stick out-but whatever you like
the gen 2 cameros had sport mirrors that fit pretty good, when painted to match the car look good-also early 80's monte carlo's had sport mirrors that fit 70-72 doors pretty good

Rich,
You and Derek inspired me, I just bought a pair for my 69...though I didnt get the same deal you did!
Is the wiring pretty straight forward? You mentioned that it had four wires...does it use a chassis ground?
Have you thought about how you are going to route the wires through the door and into the compartment? You planning on using boots or contacts?

I will probably run some type of loom... Not sure I like the idea of the contacts.. but thats just me...
The wiring is going to be fun... If you put + and - to two wires the mirror goes right... REVERSE the polarity... it goes left... keep the same ground and touch one of the other wires... it moves diagonal.. up and left.. reverse that polarity and it moves down and right.... I swiped a swithc from another car that I will play with .. we'll see what I can come up with... :D

Schmidty,
What mirrors off what car did you get. I an trying to get some new ones from a Buick Dealer but they want me to provide a vin and I have not found one yet????. And ware are the mirror motors?
Some one said behind the glass,, What Glass, the mirror glass or in the door.
Derek69SS Mar 12th, 08, 2:07 PM Mike, the motors are inside the mirror. There are 4 wires going into the mirror.
They are available in non-power versions if you're interested in simplicity. :)

Mike,
I used Oldsmobile mirrirs.. Derek said buick mirrors.... If you need a VIN for your buick dealer use this one:: 1G4HP52KXVH410366 (power mirrors probably)
Its from a 1997 Buick LESABRE ... goto ebay when you need to see a car or get a vin for your dealer....

Derek, It was nice chatting with you on the phone Sat. Thanks for all the good advise. Others that helped me out thanks as well!!!!!! The vin number made it possible to get them new.
Derek that car is beautiful. What kind of wheels are those, My other half really likes them.
I found some mirrors at a Buick dealer $94 each per side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Morin69ss396 Mar 12th, 08, 5:13 PM only 2 % like them !! I guess you have your answer. What's wrong with original chrome mirrors ?
Derek69SS Mar 12th, 08, 7:52 PM Derek that car is beautiful. What kind of wheels are those, My other half really likes them. Thanks :) The wheels are Billet Specialties "Vintec" also very similar are Budnik "Famosa".

Well I only had one of the chrome ones.. and they are kind of small... I have since scrapped the white mirrors and went with ones like Derek's...(except I chose the electric ones because I am looking forward to the headache from additional wiring :( )
besides .... it just looks faster. . . :D
Chevy fan attic Mar 14th, 08, 1:12 AM Here are my mirrors,,, Lol I just learned how to post pics. This is one of our 69's

I was afraid you were going to say that. I hope to have my mirrors in hand by the end of the week...and a switch from another car soon after that.
I think I will start by using an Ohm meter on the switch and identifing which terminals control which directions...from there it should be pretty straight forward. I wonder how many different ways there are wire a mirror? If everybody does it the same way, any switch will work...hmmm How many terminals/wires on your switch? Mine looks to have 7!
This will be fun! I'll keep you posted on any progress I make.
mcmlxix Mar 14th, 08, 10:05 PM The switch has 3 wires going to the mirror where my mirror has 4 inputs... I think I'll be looking for a different switch... I will probably do the same thing you are talking about with the ohm meter... write down the colors, test, and draw myself a diagram.... then look for a different switch....

Schmidtys_Speedshop Mar 17th, 08, 11:03 PM Derek and Rich,
How do your mirrors mount to the car? I just got my mirrors today. The plastic portion of the studs are throwing me off. Did buick have a mount of some sort that slid over the studs from the inside of the door?
Thanks in advance,
mcmlxix Mar 17th, 08, 11:19 PM You need 3 holes... One for each bolt and one for the wiring... I used the existing holes from the stock mirror, added one further back and enlarged the first one... I'll try and take some pics of my mirror base and the holes...
Schmidtys_Speedshop Mar 24th, 08, 11:02 PM Ok, here is one way to wire them. :hurray:
I got a simple black switch from a Ford Focus off of ebay for 1.00 + S/H. It has seven terminals in the back. I used an ohm meter to see which pairs were connected in each direction.

Very Cool .. Do you have any more details on the switch... Like what year Focus?

I found this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-Focus-Power-Mirror-Switch_W0QQitemZ310033788948QQcmdZViewItem?hash=it em310033788948
It looks like it is similar to the one I have and says it fits any 2000-2004 Ford Focus with power mirrors.
When you mounted yours to your car, did you need a spacer or anything on the inside? The plastic portion of the studs on mine extend past the bottom of the mirror...I'm going to need to fab something to take up that extra space.
usc2001gc Mar 29th, 08, 10:02 PM FYI, you can get the Le Sabre mirrors from Rockauto.com for <$50 for power, <$30 for manual. I looked at a 98 Le Sabre Limited, under body-exterior, outside mirrors.
mcmlxix Apr 9th, 08, 5:10 PM Well I got my Focus switch from eBay yesterday... they were supposed to send me the connector with wiring but forgot... The switch looks great and should be easy to mount... cant wait to get this setup installed.... :hurray:
