: Video of weird noise during cam break in 496/VooDoo
Augustboy2009 Feb 29th, 08, 6:04 PM Hey all. So long story short. I did another cam change in my 496. I went back to the Voodoo 60204.
I took the heads to the machine shop to have the proper springs and spring pressures installed. I also had new viton valve stem seals installed. Spring cups were installed as well
If you watch the video you can hear a strange noise coming from the engine. I'm not sure what kind of noise it is? It sounds like its coming from the Rocker arms area.

I did use this 60204 in the engine a year ago with the wrong valve springs but it never made this strange noise. The cam was taken out and I installed a Comp XE294. After 2,000 miles I decided I wanted a more street freindly cam so the 60204 went back in.
The cam was broken in with new lifters, EOS, and Rotella T. Valves were adjust 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
Any ideas??????????

65cayne Feb 29th, 08, 7:00 PM boy it sure sounds real quiet except for that noise you're talking about. Did you muffle the mic on your camcorder?
I suspect you are going to want to pull the valve covers and have a look around. Dont mean to state the obvious but that definitely sounds like your valve train. Can't tell exactly where it's coming from in the vid but it almost sounds like your rockers are hitting the valve covers (I hope it is that simple).
BTW: real nice impala you have there. what compression are you running in the 496?
BLOWNBBC Feb 29th, 08, 7:05 PM To me it also sounds like the rockers might be hitting the valve covers. Are you running stock arms or rollers?

Augustboy2009 Feb 29th, 08, 8:17 PM Thanks guys! I went out and got on her hard!!!!!! She screams up to 6,000rpm's. I'm so glad I finally did it right and took the heads in to a professional machine shop to have the springs installed at the right pressures, etc.
I fixed everything that I wanted to fix. Oil leak at oil pan, too big of cam, install valve seals, the oil consumption problem, smoking at start up and at idle in gear.
I fixed it all! I am STOKED!!!!!!!!
I'll post a vid of the 496 with the 60204 in a new thread.

So was it rocker/valve cover interference? Inquiring minds want to know. Nice ride and a smooth idle as well.

d1_bradley Mar 1st, 08, 10:07 AM Rockers will hit the metal baffle for the breathers if not REAL careful on a high lift cam.
