I have a 283 , 4speed in my 67 El with 373 now, but I am selling my 75 pick up and it has 454, 700R and I will probably trade these before sale. My thoughts are with present gas prices and wanting to drive it more perhaps keep 283 and put in 700R or get a modern engine Ls1 perhaps with a 4l60E and sell 454 , thoughts criticism?

the best would be aluminum but...... big chunks of cast Iron an't Bad ;)

Do the 283 and a 5 speed. You already have pedals and such.
I am jealous!
Your best bet, though, is to send that nasty old 283 and that outdated fourspeed to my house and start over!

better yet. a sbc 2.2 nascar engine..
why.. because nascar chevy teams now run the r7 block (most teams anyways)
so the chevy sbc 2.2 are cheap as no one runs them now..
and for the same money as a alum ls engine you can get a engine that will rev to 9000+ rpm
and stay together... with the best engineered heads untill the r7 engine..
plus the WOW factor

BBs rule, your choice gas mileage or fun , time is short floor it (1967 elcamino)
Are you saying that you can't have fun with a SB? Well I'm having tons (as long as it's backed by a manual trans). "The best of both worlds"

I like my LS1, 20 mph, starts instantly even in the coldest temps. Smooth power to 6200 rpm in any gear.
