Finished filing the end gaps on the 2nd comp rings yesterday. Got the top rings done about a month ago. Finished up installing the pistons, rods,& rings in the block. No parts leftover & no pistons in backwards. :D On top of that, didn't even break any rings. ;) Who-hoo, Life is good ! Not sure how some of you make money at this and get things done right & check what you done. Ya'll must be some FAST filing, fittin, & double-checkin fools. smile.gif I mean that in a good way. Don't want to step on anyone's toes if you know what I mean. :D It took me two days+ to get this far. Hate to try to pay my bills like this. Bet I'd get skinny in a hurry. I kinda cheated though, when I got hungry, tired or frustrated I took a break. That & I've got the engine stand in the kitchen where I've got the essentials. Heat, refreshments & James Bond (marathon on Spike TV) in the background while all this is going on. One of the few benefits of being single. Next step: oiling system. The saga continues... Dave H

Building the engine in the kitchen.....thats wonderful in so many ways. Just curious though, once you get it all assmbled, do you have an easy way to get it out of the kitchen? They tend to get heavy when you put em all together. Or, do you have the car in there too? That would be somethin.

Nice part is the parts are fresh and clean from the dishwasher during assembly. :D

Hey Greg, just got back from measuring the doorway. Door leads from kitchen directly into garage. It appears I've got plenty of room to move it with heads & intake back into the garage/driveway once it's done in a few months. No room for the headers though. tongue.gif You made me think to check . Thanks! Too much junk in that side of the garage to get a car past plus the door is too small. ;) Almost had my sportbike bike in the kitchen once quite a few years ago while doing a burnout in the garage. :D Shoulda been facing OUT into the driveway. Dang that was close too ! Dave H

Hello Finally, haven't resorted to washing parts in the dishwasher (yet). smile.gif But I DID bake the VHT Flat White coating on the tops of the pistons in the oven in the kitchen for 8 hours. Saw it in an old issue of Car Craft and decided to give it a try. smile.gif We'll see what happens later on with that. Wanted to make sure it didn't detonate with pump gas. Dave H

Hey Mike, that looks mighty handy to have when doing the filing. I used the old "crank the ring filer". In other words, file & check, file & check, file & check ... graemlins/boring.gif But at least I know they're right(except for the one that's +.003). I doubt it'll notice it. :D Dave H

When I put my 406 SB together years ago I made a wooden nest for it that it's pan fit in and assembled it in the dinning room of the place we were living in up at South Bend!!

I just used three short lengths of pipe and rolled it wherever I wanted to put it.

And when we moved, I backed the Company Gunning Truck up to our door and a neighbor and I rolled it up into the back of the truck's box-van using two, long 2" x 12"s!!

Got it to mexico, MO and by the side of the Motel room I was staying at the next evening after dark and as my Buddy, Doc and I were transferring it to his Shoe-box Van, we got rousted by a City Cop for possible B&E!!

Anyway, some fast talking and he recognized me b/c his wife was a friend of the young lady I was dating at the time b/c I was divorced!!

Whewww....
