: Notching Frame?

A buddy of mine that does fabricating work (roll cages, aluminum, chassis, back halves) is putting in wider rear wheel tubs in my Chevelle. I needed to get rid of some minor rust and I figured while I was at it, get them moved in a bit. He said something about notching the frame in a bit so when I go back to my larger tire size, they won't rub the frame rail. I need some more insite besides his knowledge, if this will hurt the structural integrity of the frame or not?
Thanx

My 67 chevelle has had the frame notched for at least 30 years and has been drag raced most of those years with no structural issues.

I am literally in the middle of this exact project on my El Key
I also wondered about the integrity of the frame when done.
I was more concerned about the lateral load.
Its scary cutting up a perfectly good car.
I will tell you its the tubs that is the hard part, and being in a El Key you can see the tubs in the bed makes it that much more of a challange. I am going to modify my existing tubs and widen them 2 ". I want it to look stock as possible.
Quick, your comments have made me fell better about doing it.

It seems to me the frame is the easy part.

Those of us with Grand Nationals have been doing this for years and I have yet to see a single car with a problem, keep in mind that these are 8,9 and 10 second cars

Please look into "back-halved" cars and see how the frames they use look.

Nice post Dan,
Do you know what kind of car that is?
They really took a lot out of the frame.
