: Starting an Auto Accessory Business....
Chevelle402ss Feb 27th, 08, 11:42 PM Hey Guys,
A friend and I are starting an automotive accessories installation business. We will be offering all sorts of quality auto accessories for all kinds of vehicles. My question is, if anyone has any suggestions, what should our company name be?...i.e., we need help with our branding strategy. What names sound appealing to you if you'd want any accessories professionally in your car? A name you could trust, such as Performance Auto Accessories, etc? Let me know your ideas! Thank you all!
bluechevelless Feb 28th, 08, 12:27 AM Me, My brother, and his friend just started Performance Auto Care, its a mechanic shop but we do anything involving cars. We wanted to get a shop and a store and sell speed parts and install them but we havent found a place cheap enough to do so.

It isn't that anyone thinks it is a joke. As you have already figured out, picking a name is a very hard thing to do. If you plan on using the phone book for advertizing then a "A" name is good since it will be listed towards the front of the section.
A friend and I tried to start a performance shop a few years back. It took us longer to come up with the name than the business was actually open. We picked the great time to open it, right after 9/11 when the whole car business went down the drain because people were freaking out.
Get some friends together and just have a good time hanging out and throwing around names. You will be surprised what comes out of something like that.
Good luck with your business. Starting a business and keeping it going is a very hard and time consuming ordeal.
MrBill66Malibu Mar 2nd, 08, 4:34 PM I believe the name you make for yourself will be the quality of work you perform and what your reputation will be in a couple of months/years.
You could name yourself Quality Auto Accessories and if you do crappy work and have a bad reputation the name won't mean 2 cents.
On the flip side, you could be called Joe Blows Auto Accessories and have a killer business.
If you do good work, your name will spread and if you do crappy work it will spread even faster.
My advise is spend more time and effort on doing quality work and treating the customer correctly and the work will come.
Case in point, the Machine shop I deal with is Clemmons Speed Shop, it's been around for over 40 yrs, it's known all over the Carolinas, Virginia and more and there is never a shortage of work, in fact some is even turned away if your not willing to wait. Not really much of a name, but who cares??? People go there because of there reputation.

Derek69SS Mar 2nd, 08, 8:12 PM I'd put "performance" in the title rather than "accessories"
The guys who want "performance" parts don't care about "accessories".
The guys who want "accessories" want to believe it will help performance.

think about it- someone's car breaks down, they take it to "the shop" to get it fixed..
when they want to add custom accessories to their car- they take it to "the shop" to get the work done..
RedSS454 Mar 3rd, 08, 12:44 PM I sent a post as a joke I am sorry if you took it the wrong way, Mr bill said it the best.
I have been in business a long time . the name does not matter, aaa anything is going to get you listed first. your attitude towards the customer is most important, your prices and quality of your work is all that counts. If you are doing speed and performance the word of mouth advertising is what will get you all the work you can handle.
If it just a parts house, you will have quite a bit of competition from the major guys, then it is all about price and what you have in stock.
communication with your customers is the most important service you can provide.even if it is bad news tell them, work it out.
good luck Jim

Chevelle402ss Mar 4th, 08, 3:41 PM Thank you all for your input! We are not necessarily specializing in performance parts, but rather accessories for any and every car out there. Such as ski racks, GPS, etc. If any of you have ever heard of toys for trucks, thats more of what we're going to do. Our goal is to also install these accessories for our customers. We are only going to offer quality parts and service, hoping to build a good reputation that way. Just thinking of ideas for the name of the business. Like I said before, we own a big auto dealership already, and we want to expand. Since we only sell Chevy, Ford, Buick, etc., we most likely won't get import customers (people with hondas, toyotas, etc). So, the name of the business isn't going to have our dealership name in it. Thanks again for the great ideas, and feel free to post more!
