Hopefully someone here is familiar with this and can help me out. Working on an 88 chevy 1/2 ton with a 350 that has been sitting for 2 years. Ran fine when parked but now it wont start. It cranks fine but the injectors do not release fuel and it does not seem to have spark (i pulled a plug and grounded it to the engine to check) unless i wasnt able to get a good enough ground to make it spark. Both the injector fuse and the ignition fuse are good. Cant tell if the fuel pump is working or not (in tank or?) Any ideas what to check would be helpful. Thanks

In order of known failures I've experienced with late model TBI stuff.

Ignition Module
Fuel pump relay
Fuel pump
ECM

If it runs when you dump raw fuel in and stays running only not to start after you turn it off and re-crank go straight to the Ign module.
Check the Fuel pump relay for corrosion and power, you can also direct feed the pump there as well with the pigtailed connector. Then ensure voltage to the pump at the wires going to the top of the tank(its inside). If powered dead pump. Chances are its the pump. Modules fail but they'll usually cold start then just die or not restart once hot. Hope this helps.

It wont fire with raw fuel or starter fluid as there seems to be no spark as well. Thanks

I would go with ignition module.
Stay away from the Autozone brand though.

Is the check engine light on? If not the ECM is not getting power? Bad EFI relay?

I had this problem with the '89 I had after it was parked for a winter. If you turn on the key to "run" (not start) and the service engine soon light is NOT on then you have lost battery power to the ECM. On my truck under the hood on the passenger side was a plastic cover on the firewall covering the fuel pump relay and a wiring buss bar. If I recall the ECM wire was orange and was corroded a few inches from the buss bar at a connector. A slight tug and it came apart. A few minutes later I had it fixed. It was a simple repair.

Thanks for the tip. The service engine light is on with the key on.

I had an '88 that died on me, wouldn't restart. Figured out that it was cranking too slow, because the alternator was locked up. Took the belt off, and it fired right up. Changed the alternator, was good to go. Something to look at.
