They reccommended a diaphragm clutch for a 6k plus BBC motor? Who did you talk to?

The only place I've seen that sells McLeod is PAW.
I always order direct from McLeod myself. My inlaws live a few miles away so I save on shipping.
McLeod will rebuild their parts too. So you save if you change combos or break something.

I talked to Red and he understood the potential HP / Torque of my motor etc. but stressed if it was street driven and raced occaisonally with slicks ..which is what in reality my car will be used like.... the 12" diaphram clutch with the dual performance disc it would be fine ( actually commented good to about 650hp /600 torque)also said the taller the tire the harder on the clutch.
....he did agree if raced every weekend then go to a adjutable long style race clutch etc etc.

I was a little surprised too but he knows his stuff and Mc Leod has a great reputation with the serious racers I know ..

. He wanted me to understand for a street strip car the key is go with the largest diameter clutch you can get under your bellhousing so you can reduce the clutch pressure for ease of use and the large diameter would provide clamping force and the disc he suggested is a dual friction but not the same as CF in composition ...the disc aint cheap !!

I run a McLeod Dual Performance disc, and a 10.5" diaphragm pressure plate (I'm restricted to a small 153 tooth McLeod flywheel because of starter/header interference.) I am VERY impressed with the combo. Butter smooth on take up, very light pedal (I'm talking lighter than a friend's new Honda Civic!), and no slippage. I far prefer it to the Centerforce DF a friend of mine has installed in his 71 El Camino. Not saying the Centerforce is a bad clutch, but I find the McLeod a better unit.

CDN SS, I noticed in your sig that you've got a 3 barrel holley 950, is it from the late sixties/ early 70s or did holley come out with a new version? How does it perform?

Troy ... thanks for feedback ...where did you buy the Mc Leod ??

Bob .yes it's the original Holley 3bbl from the 60's.. worked fine on old combo , will see how it runs in the spring on this new motor.

I got my Mcleod bellhousing from SUmmit. They carry all the mcleoud or can get it. They are also cheaper than ordering from Mcleod as Mcleod will tell you. I have their Twin disc clutch/flywheel behind my 600 hp 454, it is probably overkill and will eventually start to break the rearend but i got a deal on if from a fellow member, it is used and has some burn marks on the flywheel but i am sure it will work great and supposedly only has about 50 passes on it, they cost about a $1000 new! i got it for about $380. hopefully it doesnt' brake my drivetrain!!!!

I bought my McLeod stuff from Mike Pell @ www.5speedtransmissions.com (http://www.5speedtransmissions.com) the same time I bought my TKO.

As Cody said, you can also pick it up right from McLeod or from Summit. I got from Mike because it was a convienient package deal.
